Am I out of line for wanting to speak to a seller that only assists on speaking thru dms purchase is over 1000 dollars and seller hasnt be active for 3 years

If it’s the guy in NJ, don’t bother. He’s ghosted people as a seller AND as a buyer.

First time buying from someone?

Make sure you are perfectly clear on all of the parts that are included in whatever you intend to purchase.

Example, if you agree to purchase parts from a door, be sure to set expectation that its a complete set of parts/ALL of the parts in a specific door OR if its all but certain ones that have already been picked/sold.

You may want to review Woody's thread on scammers to avoid sending money to one.

Yes, make your arrangements and payment related info via PM here, rather than through any public forum, or through email or phone.

But also make sure that the member's ID on PM is exactly the same ID on the public forum. I have read some scammers use an ID that's very close to the legitimate one.

It is not a vendor, it is me. I have never been asked to call someone to answer a security question. Sell stuff on all types of venues and this is the first time I have been asked to call to verify my identity. I am just being cautious on my end. Have had negative experiences with phone call related security issues. I am legitimate and my listing is legitimate.

It's getting spicy here....

Usually I Don't have phone conversations with buyers. But when dealing with higher cost items. There always seems to be myriad of questions, if they are a "In good standing" member. I have no problem calling them to answer any questions, saving on numerous messages going back and forth.

Everyone has different levels of comfort as both a buyer an a seller. There are buyers who suck, and sellers who suck. There are times where I do like to have a phone call with a seller just to get a feel for them, and would do the same for a buyer who wanted to chat. I have yet to have a bad transaction through mud as both a buyer & seller.

That all being said, I do understand wanting to have all communications documented through the forum PM system as it leaves no room for ambiguity.

Your ad is great, and if buyer doesn't feel comfortable, he can buy the same item at retail plus sales tax.

What method of communication the seller prefers is strictly a matter of his personal preference. Same goes for the buyers. So not a red flag either way. I sell a lot of stuff (mostly on FB marketplace), and i absolutely can't stand it when potential buyers insist on calling me and will not provide my number, in most cases..
