I didn't take any, but -spike- buddy Mike took a lot. He said he was gonna register here and post up.

That loop at the cabins was pretty cool, but I can't say I would be in a hurry to go again. Need to work on my down hill skills a little. That last STEEP loose dirt hill with the turn at the bottom made me @&@&@&@& a little. I thought I could use the tranny in low to keep a slow speed, but the rig just started hauling downhill. Then I started braking to slow down and went sideways a bit. I think I should have tried a little braking all the way down.
But no leaks and no damage, so all good!

Sellin already? You got something else lined up in Tucson or ya head back West?

Yea, when we downsized the plant this year (75 employees to 11), I ended up taking a $12K/year pay cut. Things are getting a bit tight with this big of a mortgage. So I am selling, moving in with a friend on the north side of town, quitting my job and going to school full time for a couple of years. I'm getting tired of working this hard for $50K. I want to take a break and watch the *scenery* over at U of A for a while.:D

I'll probably have some time off at the end of the year though........I want to get out a few times before the spring semester starts.

I want to thank everyone for letting Michael and me join in. We had a great time.

The group consisted of Brian (goodtimes) in the Jeep, Chuck from New Mexico in a Tacoma, Brett in a Tacoma, Spike and Mike in the white LC, Alvin in his newly Durabaked LC (looks good), Michael in the K5 and myself in the FJ40. Box Canyon was beautiful, a bit narrower than I remembered from 10 years ago. Someone had freshly defaced rock walls with blue spray paint . Chuck had to leave afterwards and the group headed to a playhill. Then onto Martinez Canyon (I really dig the grave at the entrance); after the Cabins, the first rock garden initially intimidated me, but with encouragement and showing me a line for short wheelbase (thanks Brian), I got into the groove of things. Really beautiful scenery out there, but I was much too busy to take pictures. And it was so cold up higher with the wind.

Not having done the Martinez trail before, I had to get out several times to inspect obstacles on the climb out (sorry Alvin if I held you up, thanks for the patience), but the 'Cruiser did really well. The steering (manual) is much easier after going to the narrower tires (highway behavior is better, too). I still have to get more experience when to use the front locker, but thanks to my spotters, no damage at all and no "hairy" situations. I did run out of courage on two occasions: an off-camber spot on the switchbacks and the bypass to "the luge", Michael drove those for me. I tumbled and fell attempting to walk down that steep hill, it's almost unbelievable a vehicle can make it. We met a broken rock buggy on the way out out of the canyon; on his right front, everything from the knuckle out was laying about in pieces. He was going to have to spend the night and wait for his buddies to bring tools and parts to fix it up.

The group split back at the playhill, with Alvin and Brian heading back out Box Canyon, and we others made it out with Brett leading on Mineral Mountain Road. The only casualty was a taillight on the K5, taken out (unneccessarily) on Martinez Mine road :frown:.

Thanks again and hope to see you all on another trail.

Awe hell I missed Chuckles too? Now that in itself is a major bummer.

Not only did you miss chuckles, you missed his ....uh.....dog....rat.....chipmunk.....thing.

Whatever it was, it was obviously drunk as it kept spinning around in circles...it tried to bark once, but it sounded more like a chipmunk on crack than a dog......

You do know that Chuck sold his zr2, right?

Yeah I kinda figured that out. So who still has one? Wolf and Steve, right? How's Wolfie and Kyle doin? Ain't wheeled with them either.

I have an excuse....my camara was already packed and moved (it is sitting right next to all the recovery gear I didn't have with me this weekend).

BMAN, Brian and Steve are about all that is left with the chevy's. The rest of us are driving either toyotas or jeeps. Wolfie and Kyle are still alive....I think. I haven't been 'wheeling with Wolfie in forever. Kyle took his scrambler out twice this year, both times with his g/f. I dont think she was impressed, so she keeps him locked down most of the time (although we do manage to get out to happy hour every week or two).

Hi Spike, can you post the pictures Mike took?

His GF? Not "Hisothermistress" I take it?

Mike (Thanatoz is his screen name) is out of town for a week. Perhaps he will find time to post next weekend. No promises, he's on the road a lot and has trouble making time for his family.

Personally, IMHO those who are wanting to see this beautiful trail should pack up the recovery gear and get out there! Perhaps the Sonic meet could be moved to the cabins...

For us readers the text was stellar!

HOM was fired last year. You probably won't see her around any of the 'wheeling boards anymore. She pulled a stunt that defies all decency and common sense, and left someone else holding the bag. She is just lucky that the guy she left with that bag isn't really a violent person....people have, quite seriously, been killed for less. Lawyers are involved, the court system will be involved at some point, and the jail system may be involved as well. It's just a bad deal.
