does anybody have some. i found a few pics can't remember who they were from, but they were internal. i know somewhere i have pics of the plate where the rear crank handle goes...i just can't find somewhere

There's two '55's at the wrecker where I'm going today, one has barn doors and I'll see what the other has. Do you want parts if it has a manual crank?

Don't think that would be possible due to the worm gear on the motor. Only way I can think of this working is if you attached a shaft extension to the drive motor and then a 90 gear box with it poking out the back.

Could probably do something close to what there is for sunroofs when they have issues.

got to talking about this when talking to arthog about rear drawer systems. i mentioned that you'd have to leave at least a 4" gap between the drawer and the tailgate because if the motor ever failed, you'd have to be able to get the panel off to unclip the window and get the tailgate open.

then we started talking about the manual crank windows. iirc, the handle wasn't permanant. you could take it off or something and the mechanism the handle went to was behind a plate? that's my poor memory tho.

The trucks in the wrecker are either barn doors or power window.

Charles, do the have another locking gas fill door?

Lou

There's one at the wrecker! A green one this time. Do you want it? I'm not sure I'll be able to get out there before I go to Miami in a couple of weeks. I will, however, go there on the US thanksgiving holiday as that holiday is not observed by Guatemala but is observed by our school.

can use it, when it belonged to the PO the lock/door was jimmied destroying the lock to where it is unusable + damaging the sheet metal;

Lou

is the lock arm on yours still good? someone took off the lock arm, but my key cylinder is still good. i'll take your old one when you get the new one if that part is good ;)

My FJ55 was halfway torn apart when I got it, and I have never seen one up close until then, so I actually don't know how the back gate works!! I know the door handle opens the gate which swings down, but how does the window work into the equation? Does the window have to go down in order to lower the tailgate, or is there a frame around it like the crank window on an FJ40 front door? Pics would be amazing, a video would be pure gold. Since I haven't seen a completed FJ55 up close, I might be asking a few questions like this until I get her all together. Thanks!

Inge, you are more than welcome to what ever parts are left after I get the lock working; I will have to take a look at the door but believe the arm might be intact :)

there is no outer frame like the door windows. the window must be down to lower the gate.

to see what it looks like, lower the window and drop the gate, then press the "safety switch" on the left side pillar and roll the window up. the "safety switch" looks like a door dome light switch (spring loaded button switch).

There are several interlocks in the mechanism. The door MUST be closed (or the overrride button depressed) to operate the window and the latch handle is blocked until the window reaches the bottom so you cannot open the tailgate till the window is down.

Lou, I won't be making it to the wreckers again before I go to Miami so the fuel door will need to come after November.
