I had the dealership do the fuel system service and something seems not quite right now. When I start the truck it seems like the rpms surge to 1400-1800 and stays there for a good 10 secs and the creeps down to about a thousand rpms when I put it in gear and start driving. Is this normal? Where should my rpms be when I start the truck and also when I put it in to gear?

Mine did the exact same thing after I did the tb cleaning. It went back to normal after a couple hours of driving it.

It's probably just the ECU re-learning what position to hold the clean throttle plate at for idle. If it previously had to hold 3.8 degrees open and now it only takes 2.1 degrees (or whatever) to maintain 750 rpm then it has to make this trim adjustment in its algorithms. You'd think that a dealer would have reset the memory though...

So does the hundred just relearn on its own and you don't have to adjust the throttle body cable? If it is drive by wire then I am guessing that there is no throttle cable to adjust? How long would it take for my truck to relearn the rpm settings?

The cable is only on pre-03 100's. On those years, the APPS was located at the TB (along with the TPS). You can adjust it at any time to remove slack (careful to not get it too tight! It wants some play so that it will always close).

The 'learning' is just the ECU adapting to a change. This happens whenever a sensor is changed, plugs are changed, TB is cleaned, etc. Takes several trip cycles for it to settle in.

Not sure what IAT is. The MAF cleaner is a solvent (de greaser) that evaporates without leaving any residue.

Just cleaned my MAF and TB, grabbed a before and after shot of the TB
