I believe I gained 10hp at the wheels as the can of CRC MAF cleaner claims, maybe more.

I used TB cleaner on the plate. I used the CRC spray on the MAF. It instructed me to spray the wires 10 to 15 times. I sprayed them about 8 times.

Both cleanings took a total of 30 minutes. Most of the time was spent cleaning the plate. The gunk was on there pretty good and I did not spray directly on to the plate. I sprayed the rag first and then cleaned the plate.

Thanks for the info on this quick and easy maintenance item.

PS - I will probably check the MAF and TBP every air filter change which I do about once a year and clean as necessary. I drive about 9000 miles a year or less.

Can you do a burnout with all 4 tires now? I used the same stuff a while back with good results.

O yeah. 4 wheel burnouts no problem.

I also disconnected the negative battery cable for the 30 minutes I was working on the LC.

good to hear. I should clean my MAF too and reset ecu...I just hate resetting the radio presets.

I just reset the one for the sirius to work. I have not listened to the others in sometime.

Thanks for the thread!

I don't remember if we can reset ECU using ODB tools ?

how much do these two cans of cleaners cost?

About 5 each and they should last for years. The TB cleaner was made by 3M.

Did you open up the throttle plate to clean the other side?

I opened it a little and cleaned it the best I could. I did not like moving it but I did.

If you lay something heavy on the gas pedal it will stay open. Once open, you can clean the back side with a rag attached to the end of a rod.

I believe you've just been taken for a ride with the rest of them!

Maybe 20 hp at the wheels. (I do not believe any of this hype, just having some fun on the forum.)

I will clear the codes, but I don't think it will reset your fuel trims back to factory settings.

Regarding this comment.....I did this cleaning operation last week and had the wife step on the throttle while i cleaned the butterfly valve...she said she had her foot to the floor but the valve only opened maybe 25%? is there an eletronic assist that helps set the position? i am also fighting the low mileage in my 100 so i am wondering if there is something wrong here:hmm:

thanks all barrypt5

I just went through this a few weeks ago (TB Cleaning and MAF spray), also trying to work on the dismal mileage I'm getting (10 in true city / 14 highway at 75).

I had a noticable increase in power, still not a racer, but it was something that wasn't just in my head, like many things are.

So far a minimal increase in mileage, but not enough miles to really have an accurate reading.

The throttle is electronically controlled so steeping on the gas like a go kart to open the butterfly valve will not work. Holding open the valve with one hand and cleaning with the other will work fine and do no harm to the TB or its linkages. The 100 is pretty much fly by wire.

On my 2000, I can get it partially (1/2?) open by twisting the cam (where the cable connects) by hand. The cam will turn relatively easy by hand and then hit a soft stop against a more firm spring. Continue to rotate and the action changes from TBW to mechanical and the butterfly will partially open.

This is a good opportunity to adjust your cable linkage too. Mine had a lot of slack in it. I took it up just to the point where there was zero tension on the throttle cam. You want to error on the slack side lest you risk the engine accelerating on its own. If this happens, make sure to keep your foot off the brake and dial 911 while news copters follow your epic drive.
