I picked up another couple of sets of quarters today. I had them burn me some ubolt skids with the extra! Only problem is I forgot about the spring center pin. I will have to drill that.

Seriously, Rob... you make it look so easy! Awesome work!!!
Thanks! I have had the vision for this tub for a while, as I looked at the rotten tub on this project I knew I had to do something. I picked up this gray tub this past spring and figured I would do something with it one day. The biggest hurdle was the quarters. Once I found the right guys to make them the rest fell into place. I spent a lot of time with the welder in my hand yesterday! I did get to play with my plasma cutter some too, trimming the inner wheel wells and then the finish work with a angle grinder. I hope to have few hours today to clean up the drivers side and then start patching more holes in the floor boards. I am not sure what was bolted to the floor but I have already filled a dozen holes and have at least a dozen more to fill. I have figured out where to cut the floor so that I should just have one seam to butt weld together to join the two tubs.

It may look easy but it is still a lot of work. I have almost 10 hours in it so far. Having the right tools helps too! :)

It’s funny you mention making it “look easy” when the reality is a ton of time goes into things like this. This forum (people making it look easy) is what encouraged me to take on a project vehicle in the first place. What I’ve learned is that pictures show you the finished project and maybe a few steps along the way, but there’s a ton of work, time (and in my case re-work) not captured by the time the photos make it to Mud!

Now that I’ve been tinkering with my 40 for the past 6 years I realize what a time investment they really are. I have a lot of fun doing it but everything takes 5x longer than I expect! Doesn’t help that every time I take on a project, it’s my first try at whatever I’m diving into.

Needless to say, even with 10 hours invested that’s great work and incredibly fast!

A little more grinding today. I think the quarters came out well. I plan to skim coat the top edge and blend it in.

Ok boys and girls. Todays safety course. I always try to wear these four main pieces. Full face shield, dust mask with charcoal filters, ear muffs, as well as gloves. This mask did its job! It takes a little longer to get ready but to breath clean air, not loose your hearing and not only keep your eyes protected but your whole face it is worth it. 3M makes great gear and you can pick it all up at Home Depot or other stores. I like the respirator because I can get extra filters for it without replacing the whole thing. It cost about $25 but well worth it.

As most know with a set of top rails, B pilar and cowl you can build a new tub. May be later. New tub ready to go on. I seam sealed all the seams inside the cab and under to prevent moisture and rust build up. Then painted it with Rustoleum Industrial paint. I do not like undercoating as it is hard to get off it you have to do a repair.

Body came off ok. I cut in four pieces to make it easier to carry. I found yet another nest.

The hard part is done. Whoever said measure twice cut once was not a body man. I am not sure how many times I measured but decided to overlap the two pieces by 1" at the floor. I need to patch the rollbar holes and finish welding it out then grind it smooth with a flap disc.

Very nice work. That truck was impressive on the trail! Now pieces won’t fall off while you’re leading the way!

Very impressed, again, by how quickly you’re moving. Hopefully by next Fall Crawl I’ll have an H41 and enough lift to follow you but something tells me even your “STW” is going to go places my “weekend wheeler” will cringe at...

Tub welded in and I got the rockers on. I had to cheat them up a bit due to lack of sheetmetal to attach them to.
Up next new heavy duty side steps!

Well I did stop to eat lunch and post these post! Lol! I am on call and have to be ready to go at a moments notice. I get a lot done as long as the phone does not ring. It has been quiet today thankfully!

I have to keep telling myself that this is just a trail truck but I tend to overbuild things sometimes. I plan to spend a lot of time in this in the coming years and do not want to look back and say " I wish I had done ..."

I am on the fence about fuel injection but that may take some of the skill out of driving this thing. I have a tbi 350, a 5.3 LS and a 6.0 LS that could go in it instead.

For now I am going to keep the carbed 2F!

One thing I have learned from the race car is to have good seats! I took advantage of the Black Friday sale and picked up a set of PRP daily drivers in the plus size! These will fit nicely in here.

One step done . One to go! I am using 1 1/2 .120" dom and 1/8" diamond plate. I will tie it into the outrigger as well.
