Hey all... I am currently hunting for a roof rack for my LX. I have been in contact with a bunch of the rack manufacturers and none of them can give me a definitive answer if their 200 series roof racks will work on the LX. Has anyone installed one on their LX, and if so which one? Thanks all! After doing a bunch to my old tacoma its hard getting used to searching for options.

The LX and LC rooflines are for all intents and purposes, one and the same. Any 200-series roof rack will work.

There are a number of pics floating around the web showing LX570s running various 200-series (LC) racks.

Unrelated question but,

how are the 285/75/17s on your truck? What kind of trimming to get them to fit and would you go with the size again? My 285/70/17 rub at full lock. Thanks!

Well I thought that too at first but bajaracks says their unit will NOT work on an LX....gamiviti has been nice enough to respond and i am in the process of getting them measurments to ensure fitment. I will let you know what they say.

I had to trim the front mud flaps a fair bit and a little bit to the front side fender liner... it now only rubs at full lock in reverse.

Missed this part... I would totally do this size again.

I believe @Ali FJ80 just mounted a Gamiviti on his LX and was straightforward install. Hit him up if you want more info.

Curious. The mounting points on the drip rail are the same. I've mounted a LC OEM rack to my LX.

Perhaps it's a clearance thing with the rear hatch spoiler?

Yes my gamivit bolted right up no issues. I also thought all the 200 series mounting points were identical be it LC or LX, difference was LC came with a longer factory rack that uses three points on each side where the LX has a shorter rack that uses two.

FWIW I own a 2017 LX (wife drives) and a 2016 LC. I have a Thule box that I use on both of them. The LX now has this low profile rack but same width etc. This rack is on the LC in some markets.

On older LXs/LCs (pre 2016) they were literally interchangeable. End caps and cross bars could be swapped.

Those aren't my trucks. Just examples.

The LX has two sets of unused mount points on each side. I believe you could back out the cap screw plugs and fit the longer OEM LC rack or add forward towers for a full roof rack. @reevesci is welding up racks for 200s that use all 8 mount points. I sent him measurements from my LX so there shouldn't be any fit issues.

Yes, I'm making both the 6 and 8 mount versions for the LX and LC.

If you go with a sunroof cut out go with 6 mounts. I don't feel the extra mounts at 12" apart up front do anything but add weight and cost for the unused space. Aesthetically, I like the 8 mount look, but 6 will carry most any load.

Just my 2¢

Could be. They didn't give me their reason as to why.

Just a tip for those who will install a rack themselves. First crack ALL the bolts before removing any of them completely. Rather than being welded to the body the backing bolts are attached to a piece of steel which is only attached to the body with plastic guides. If you remove one bolt and then go to crack the other the torque breaks the plastic part and then the whole assembly of two nuts attached to the piece of steel just spins freely beneath. I unfortunately learnt this the hard way.

Here is a random internet pic to give you an idea of what the design of the nut plates look like approximately. Was not smart enough to take a picture of the actual ones when I had them in hand but as you can see both sides need to still have the bolts in if your really going to apply pressure.

I found this on the 120 forum, I thought it had to be similar to what we have considering the issues some have had. Plastic or a metal clip, the nut plate needs both bolts in to stay positioned under torque.

Yup, it's the exact same. Had to drop my headliner to get to a couple of them that dropped down... was yucky.
