The boots on mine look exactly like yours. The bushing on cylinder in the middle are pretty shot too. The whole assembly will wiggle with movement with the steering wheel. No power steering fluid missing though! Back burner for sure.

I have not lost any fluid either. I am however wondering if the pop when I turn right is the steering rack and not the cv. My cv boots look good and the previous owner had both front replaced at like 120,000 miles preventatively. They were religious with the maintenance.

Aaron, I bought bushings from Superpro, and while it seems absurd that I had to source a part all the way from Australia, the parts were good. Mine were worn, but I was happy to replace them.

Brett, I ordered the Raingler cargo net for the 80, will let you know how it fits on a 100...
Awesome, can't wait to see it. Make sure to post some pictures.

Any updates Brett? Great mods so far.

Do you know if the Parrot will work with the Naka head unit?

Hi,
Very nice project you did. Could you tell me where your order the plug and play harness and part number? Thank you!!

Thanks guys. Sorry I have not been on here lately. Nothing new to report. I will be doing front and rear brakes soon. I have been traveling a lot to Thailand lately and am thinking about sourcing all the parts to convert to the OEM cyclonic air filter and intake system while I am there next time.

I bought this harness for my Parrot Bluetooth install.
Lexus (and Toyota JBL) Harness Adapter QCJBL-2

Got it here http://www.quickconnectproducts.com/Find/find.php
It is listed to work with all stereo options for my model year 2001. Good luck. If anyone else installs one of these great systems, i would love to see how you set yours up, where you mount the screen and buttons.

Good luck.

Brett

My factory alternator is getting weak at about 180,000 miles. The 2001 LX470 only had a 100 amp alternator. They bumped them up to 130 amps in 2003 but I think they use a different wiring harness. Can anyone confirm this for me? I was hoping that I could find a factory replacement that is a direct bolt in for 130-150 amps. I have heard about people attempting to put a Sequoia alternator in at 150amps I believe but there was never confirmation of it working.

I am also looking at possibly going with a DC Power Engineering alternator, either 180amp, 250 amp, or 270 amp for between $400-600. I think the 180 would probably fit my needs but I want some peoples opinions that have used these. I am also considering a mean green alternator but have not found anyone that has installed one in a 100 series and the reviews I have read on other vehicle installs seem to be poor. Also their website does not list much data on the specific alternator for the 100 series like DC does. Looking for some first hand experience. Thanks in advance.

Several including myself have done the Sequoia 150A alternator upgrade. You have to get the correct square 4-pin connector and then push the existing 3 pins/leads out of your existing connector (on vehicle) with an awl/small screwdriver. One pin slot is not used. I also installed a larger charge cable (4GA?) and higher rated fuse. I think if you stick with the 130A alternator, you don't need to mess with the charge cable nor fuse.

Thank you. I don't think I want to mess with the wiring harness so I'm still leaning towards the DC 180 amp.
How much did you pay for your Sequoia 150A Hoser?

Like you, I wasn't sure how well it would work out, so I picked up a used 2007 O.E. 150 alternator for $35 (on car-part.com). It's been over year. I plan on changing the brushes when doing other work in the vicinity. Should've done it first. Discounted dealer price is around $415 and remanufactured, I think.

Thanks again Hoser. I definitely don't want to take the chance of doing the job very soon again by putting in a used one and for the price of a remanufactured from the dealer I will definitely go with the DC Power Inc 180A. I will let you all know how it works out.

Bretthn, I think you've made a good choice. You'll also want to upgrade the charge cable to 2 gauge or larger with appropriate fuse too.

Brett, apologies for the delay on the Raingler net photo I owe ya, mine is at an upholster shop having some carpet laid in, will have something hopefully over the weekend.

Yes I can't wait to see it. How was the fit? I am thinking of welding up a barrier to hang from the rear oh s*** handles similar to the one that someone already sells but for the most part my Grand Cherokee Raingler net does its job well.

Mess thinking about upgrading the charge cable while I was in there. Any details on how you did yours/ how much of a pain was it to route and what did you do for the fuse?
It was not difficult. Just follow the existing cable. You need a way to crimp or solder that size cable though. I have a "hammer" crimper. I used ANL type fuse and holder.

For more info on upgrading the charge cable (and ground), see attachment.

A few maintenance items taken care of this week and heading to George Washington National Forest tonight with a couple friends.

Mobil 1 5w30 oil change and new Toyota filter.
Rotated the tires which are still wearing extremely well.
Full brake service including front and rear Toyota rotors and pads. New e-brake shoes and brake fluid flushed. Amazing how nicely it stops now compared to the brakes that were previously on there.
While the brakes were being done I had the front wheel bearings serviced too.
Had the transmission flushed.
I started getting some pretty good valve cover gasket leaks and found that some of the bolts were could be turned with only fingers. I tightened them down just a bit because I think they only call for 7 foot pounds. I will replace the gaskets soon.
New DHP group 31M replaced under warranty. Been parked at the airport 3-4 weeks at a time, several times in the last few months... The group 65 is about toast too and still under warranty. I am looking at solar charging options.

Ran it through the car wash and got 3 new Bosch wiper blades too.

Since the AHC is still holding up so well, I am now thinking of doing a slight AHC lift. I would start with adjusting the AHC sensors to the height I want. Then add a differential drop bracket. Then get the AHC system back in balance with rear spring spacers and cranking the torsion bars. I may later need to go to a heavier spring but I will start with spacers.

Hopefully will have some good pictures to post up on Sunday from GWNF.

Here is said cargo barrier, loosely draped. I keep it tighter. Sorry for the delay, been traveling.
