I was one of the folks very interested in this.. it's the very next thing I want to do on our LX. I'd be very grateful for as much help and detail you can give. Thanks!
Just a fun tidbit... when we replaced our OEM roof rack and crossbars with a Gamiviti rack (with bolt-on fairing), we lost almost 3 mpg highway.. from a high of 18 to about just over 15 (calculated). HOWEVER... and here's the weird part... when we put our heavy, bulky, Ruggedized Autana 3 on top, we regained about 1.5 mpg.. we did 16 routinely on a long trip, and sometimes 17. Who knows.

I would also like to see the info on the 2nd battery with AHC. Sounds like you relocated your PS reservoir? Anyhow, standing by. Thanks for a great thread.

It looks like the photos are still good in the original post here. Let me know what else you would like to know. It is pretty straight forward and I’m really not sure why more people haven’t done it.

Dual battery AHC

Thanks for the response! Your pics are very clear, but my admittedly stupid questions are caused by my lack of experience doing anything other than following by-the-book directions pretty much. How exactly did you attach the power steering reservoir in its new location, and how did you attach the battery tray you fabricated to the truck... did you use the existing mounting points from the power steering reservoir and, if so, given the relative close proximity of those three holes to each other, did that give enough stability to the battery tray and the weight of the battery? Did you drill new holes for the relocated power steering reservoir? Tap them, or bolt from underneath? Anything specific encountered when re-routing the 5/8" line, i.e., avoiding friction or heat spots? You say you extended it.. did you replace the whole thing, or splice in an extra length with fittings and clamps?

Just that nitty gritty stupid detail stuff.. I get the overall idea. I've stared at my truck a bunch of times trying to get up the nerve to start the project, but I'm one of those idiots who's afraid to try anything unless I'm SURE I know exactly what to do ahead of time.

Thanks again.

@Bretthn how has the alternator lasted?
