Any BMW guys here with an appreciation for the 335d with the M57 diesel? I've spend absurd amounts of time and money wrenching on that thing in the past year.

Love AHC. An absolute dream once its dialed in. Especially with supporting mods for weight.

New globes and hydraulic rams all around.

Buy the $250 Schwaben diagnostic tool and get button cover protectors. Best to immediately bond with the tool (perhaps some tender cuddling and caressing) since you'll be using it often and it will save you $$$$ in the long run.

I might be biased but, protool and a k-dcan cable is cheaper and has better features in English no less

Must you cuddle and caress it too?

Jeez just buying a battery and tools to program it forces me to dive-in financially before I can diagnose what I imagine to be a handful of issues. Cruisers are expensive too, but at least they are easy to work on.

BALLSY motor. Unbelievable carbon buildup. Thing was just as quick to 50mph as my old E60 M5 6mt. Waaaay better than the 2.0td that replaced it.

I've got easily over 2k in Bimmer specific tools. And I've only owned the one Bimmer haha. But they're fairly intuitive to work on I think. Just helps to have an idea of what every system is for before you go trying to diagnose one of them

Second this. I bought one for my audi. Then added the toyo s/w for it. Now I use it for checking AHC diagnostics and such.

Didn't I lend you tools at HIH to fix AHC? I still say ditch it, it's not worth the headaches. But I am also bitter because I hate torsion bars. #80Lyfe

i spent more money deleting the garbage, failing hydraulic AHC and replacing with a lift than i would have maintaining it. by far. just preference. has little to do with being cheap and everything to do with wanting to take a newer land cruiser and making it more traditional.

lamborghini owner logic: people do different things and they're being "cheap"

Still have my first car 69 2002, bought in 1975, rebuilding motor for the 4th time
Five other BMW's vintage 1972, 1988, 1997, 2001, and 2002
Seven BMW's totaled, junked, or sold over the last 45 years (3 boys)
Latest vehicle 2005 LX
All require maintenance beyond the basics, do it yourself or pay someone else or it doesn't run.

2001 LX470 and 2001 e38 750iL owner here. Bought both of them within the past 4 months :) Unfortunately both the cars are in need of TLC right now. But I love driving either of them at any time making the choice as simple as where am I going today. If I am going to a party, the v12 comes out. If I am going to Costco, the LX comes out :D :D
