Thanks for putting all this info in one place, DirtDawg! Going to order all this stuff this week.

Are you all using the 55W or 35W ballasts? I'm thinking 35W would be fine, as I don't want to be replacing ballasts every few years, but I'm curious what the general consensus is.

Which wiring harness are you all using for a 2000 LX470, Canbus or HD relay? I like how the canbus looks cleaner and simpler to install. Any reason to use the HD relay over the canbus?
I'm personally a bigger fan of 35w due to the reliability and increased lifespan.

Also if you have the extra money I always go canbus. It's a smaller package and I've had issues with relays in the past.

What about LED lights? Would these not give an upgrade to current LX470 projector low beams?

LED headlights in a projector will not have the output and throw down the road that a HID bulb will. This is a HID at top with 35 watt ballasts and a LED in the bottom; same projector (not a LX). The technology is not there yet.

Wow! That is a big difference. Good to know.

Are people using the H1 Morimoto kit? Is that the most "plug and play"? I just want to add TSX-R lenses to factory LX470 projectors.

It is exactly plug and play, probably one of the simplest HID kits out there. And yes if keeping the stock projectors you need an H1 kit.

I am officially over my LX headlights. They are the weakest part of the vehicle so far.

Has anyone done a Mini H1 swap on them? I have those in my 4runner and they are excellent, especially for the price.

I'd also be looking at replacing the housings. My lenses are faded and cracked. Looking for OEM glass housings, but those are $$$

Did you not see the swaps mentioned on page 1?

Honestly I'll pick the TSX projector over a mini H1 any day. Better output and it's easy to mount up to the LX inners.

I have seen them. I'll look into the TSX projectors more closely, but I am very happy with my Minis, and the 7.0 are suppose to be even better.

For me, the hard part is finding decent donor housings. my lenses are too trashed to save.

I'm already listed in this thread as I did the TSX swap, but I don't think it can be overemphasized just how good they are. The SC430 ones look equal, but TSX's appear to be easier to find.

I've installed several sets of the Mini H1 projectors (in a 2000 LC, square 7x6 housings for a YJ wrangler, in a '04 2500HD, and I'm making a set of 7" round housings withe MH1 projectors for a CJ-7 for a buddy this afternoon). They are great options when space is a concern, BUT the ability to use OEM quality D2S bulbs (phillips or osram) which have better output and dependability than bulbs rebased to fit in projectors requiring size H1 bulbs (even the excellent morimoto XB bulbs) in one of either of the two best projectors used in OEM configurations (SC430 or the more available TSX), makes the choice a no brainer for a LX. The cost and labor involved is the same to install a SC430/TSX projector as it is to install the MH1, so I would recommend running the SC430orTSX projector with OEM bulbs.

For the lenses, I've been looking to find headlights from the earlier LX470 years with glass lenses to swap onto my 2004 housings. I've cleaned the oxidation off the factory plastic lenses, but I'm getting the spider cracks on the inside now.

I am looking for a set of unwanted LX headlights. Mounting tabs can be broken, lenses can be cracked, marred, or hazy. I am only looking for sets with good inners so I can potentially see what other projector bodies fit. I've got a few on hand right now that might fit.

Let me know if you have a set that is of no use for you. OEM light assemblies only.

Updated the first post to include output photos and additional recent headlight threads. Also added pros/cons for each level of upgrade.

Performed a retrofit for @Wte2006 on Sunday. He drove up from Texas and I performed the retro in one day - my fastest turnaround Ive ever had on a set. Record breaking, but it won't happen again lol. Needless to say, I was great meeting ya B and I hope the lights serve you well. I snapped a couple photos during teardown, but due to time constraints I wasn't focused enough on getting more. Hopefully he can post up some final install shots and output shots sometime.

I couldn't be happier with the install. Conservatively, the light output & beam dispersion are at least 30% greater. Dawg, it was great to meet you as well, & it was a really long day;)
