Build LS2 L76 V8 and 6L80E Swap in 1997 40th FJ80

I am using HP Tuners. I did the mail order tune initially and while it allowed me to get up and running, the tune itself needed a lot of work to dial it in. It was worth the investment and I can still tune two additional trucks with the remaining credits I have and pretty much make my money back on the investment.

Sounds great... currently doing a 6.0 swap on my 92
Can't wait to hear the same sound coming out of mine!
Cheers!!

Thanks!! I have really enjoyed it. I am probably going to sell her now though. It's time to move onto the next project. I tend to get antsy for something new to do. I will more than likely list her on here first to see if there is much interest when I get the time. I have a lot invested in this project and I hope she ends up in the hands of an enthusiast. I just have to take to time to sit down and properly list/photograph her.

Head scratcher... you just finished shoveling innumerable dollars into this swap and now you're selling it? If you were doing the wrenching yourself I could sort of understand it, as you would be recouping your sweat equity.... but this?

Please don't get me wrong, it's yours to do with as you see fit but I'm just trying to wrap my head around the reasoning.

In your first post of this thread you said that this was a dream truck of yours to build this combination, so what's changed?

That being said, I hope you find a good home for this girl and you get a fair price!

This is still my dream truck, I can't tell you the hell I have caught from my wife on this as well. New job with a 30 minute commute to work and trying to keep two kids in private school 3rd a year away from that as well. I have just had to do some re-prioritizing. Not an easy decision, but have to put the kiddos first. This won't be my last FJ80, I assure you.

I'm interested. What do you think you'll be asking for it?

Thanks for asking, this has been a long process to make it work well, but it has been fun. I haven't completely decided on the asking price as I am not sure what it is worth. Sorry about that. I will try to decide soon and will post it on here. Currently I have more than 30k in the restoration/modification alone (I wish I had been talented enough to do my own wrenching, but am happy with the work I received from my mechanic). I have put new tires (BFG mud terrain K2), wheels OEM (refinished), all new paint, ARB bullbar painted to match bumperets, hood scoop, top of the line Kenwood stereo/navigation HLN9990, polk speakers, polk 500 watt amp, 2.5" Old Man Emu suspension lift, satellite radio, wiring harness, leather on front seats (waiting on leather for headrests) and center console, dual heated front seats, wood grain trim, in dash cup holder, new OEM 40th floor mats (lucked into finding these), Viper alarm system with remote start, dual batteries, warn winch, roof rack with Whisper bar cross bars, 6 speed 6L80e transmission with adaptor plate from Austrailia so no mods necessary there, LS3 engine (cammed out) should be roughly 490hp at the flywheel (I have not put it on a Dyno though) - very clean install, still full time AWD with Factory lockers and push button diff lock on dash for diff lock in high range. This is an amazing truck and I am probably forgetting some things that were done. I will be extremely sad to let her go.

Take this for what it is worth from someone who has felt the urge to get rid of projects and start something new. Just keep it. Even though you have $30k+ into it, I would bet you would be able to sell for $18-19k, so you are taking a pretty big loss. Put the 80 in the garage, and get a commuter car, I know when I lived in DC commuting could be a 2 hour process, you will pay for the commuter car in the gas you save from parking the 80.

You need to have a calibrator tune it on the dyno or in person driving it and making changes.

I've done several Ls jk swaps and you can't mail order tune these. It's impossible if you want it done right . I've also had several guys that did conversions have me tune them. Night and day.......... Tuning is the last step making the conversion truly drivable...

Before you sell it, have it tuned. You owe it to yourself after all the time and cash.

Having someone that knows the 6L80 and how to properly tune them can bring a massive seat of the pants improvement. You can have 400hp feel like 100 if the trans is not where it should be.

Also is the engine and trans the same year??? If not the trans need the same year TCM and flashed with the correct OS.....

Good luck in whatever your do. The LS is amazing and when properly set up can go several hundred thousands miles........

Bravo for taking this step. It's not easy but when you finally get it figured out its better then you could have expected.

Oh I forgot to mention that anytime you change the volumetric efficiency of the engine you have to account for those changes in the calibration.

New cam? Yep you changed it....

Also the Maf on the LS is calibrated for the factory tube and position in the air track. If your setup did not retain the entire factory setup, which I doubt it did, you need a maf cal.

If your maf is off, airflow is miscalculated. If airflow is miscalculated, fueling is off. If fueling is off your either fat and have loads more power to make or your lean and that's bad news.

Did your mechanic run the truck with a wide band in the exhaust Pre cat?

Absolutely understandable. If mom's not happy, misery will be an improvement for you lol.

I'm endorsing the commuter car idea, but finances trump the heart usually.

Best of luck!

Thank you all for your advice and support while I built this rig. You have been a real asset. I must say, I feel like crying letting her go...

I am totally interested in this Rig , I just have 2 rigs I have to sell to buy it!!!. I hope it's around in a month

That's awesome. With that cam and the heads that come on the l76, that cruiser is going to blow the doors off an srt8 grand Cherokee.

Please post video :)

LOL, no.

I'm SURE it's significantly faster than before.... but I highly doubt he's into the 12s.
