there's nothing like the sound of a V8. Oh my, I feel something funny down there.....oh my......SCHWWIIIIIING.......

So, due to multiple attempts with tuning and the growing expense of shipping my computer back and forth to the tuner, I am debating purchasing my own tuning software/tool. Am I nuts for thinking this is a viable option or could the average joe figure out how to do this???

Just read the thread from start to finish & you sir , are one lucky S.O.B. If an engine swap was on the cards for mine, I would either have a 1hdft or the LS3.
Love the colour on the truck. We don't get that colour down here in Australia. My bus is due for a respray this year & because my factory colour is a bit unique I'll stck with it, but if I was to change colours, yours would be at the top of the list.
Cheers, Mike.

Thanks Mike! I have drooled over this color bus for years (since 97 to be exact :-)). Part of why I like it is because it is a less common color. Your rig is the first one I have ever seen in that color and have to say it looks pretty sweet as well!

Cheers!

Awesome 80. I love that pewter color as well. Really reminds of a beefier Harvester Scout. Really nice rig, one of my forum favorites. Have to say that I am a little jealous right now.

Thanks dogteam! I appreciate it. As long as my bank account rebounds from this build, I am sure I will love having it for many years. Otherwise, I won't be able to even put gas in her...

So, I went ahead and ordered a Doablo Intune tuner. Does anyone know much about this tuner? Are there any words of advice when using it? Thanks guys. Your advice is always appreciated.

Thanks Ray! PM sent. Good luck with your build.

What a wonderful truck! Thank you for undertaking this project and letting us follow along.

Keep us posted with your tuning progress and as always any road reports would be much appreciated.

Merry Christmas

Very cool build. Thanks for sharing. Any updates? How is she running? Where you able to keep the stock dash?

Thanks, I was able to get most of the bugs worked out. I found a relay that was dead, causing my batteries to drop below 12 volts and killing the engine. After that was swapped she is running well. I have taken several 1 to 2 hr trips in her now. She is thirstier than I was hoping, averaging between 10 and 12 mpg's, but I LOVE the sound and responsiveness. So I am still glad I did the build. People have approached me just about everywhere I have taken her giving lots of compliments and I have enjoyed that!

And yes, she looks very stock inside. I have not connected the oil and temp gauges yet, but everything else is good to go. I am still working on fine tuning things. Currently she is still running lean. Getting her to a shop that can/will tune her is more difficult than I would have hoped. I have to go to Baltimore as it stands to get a custom tuner to work on it. Tough to do when you work full time.

what tuner program was used? Was it HPTuners?

best investment I have made. I can change whatever I want whenever I want to. I have used it extensively to correct for pinging from low grade gas (my L33 is 10:1) and also to adjust the auto shift patterns, idle speed, cooling fan temps, ect.

Great project! Wifey thought I was watching dirty movies or something as I was reading this thread... LOL

What OME setup did you go with? I like the stance and need to update my suspension.

Lol, nice! I went with a 2.5" OME heavy duty front, medium rear. I am pretty happy there. I didn't want to sit too high, but wanted ample clearance for light off road use.

Efi-live is what my mechanic said was used. I had tried diablo and couldn't get it to work. Finally gave up and just found the shop in Baltimore. It's a real pain though to get work done. Are you using HPTuners? Any drawbacks with that tuner?
