I'm not raggin, just curious, why not just buy a Tahoe? Why such a complete swap, the axles, transfer etc were no good? They usually hold up to sbc and even bb chevys fine.

Im guessing here:

1) Labor of love
2) Unique updated classic - not one of many
3) Landcruisers are way more
4) Because he can

If I have to explain it you wouldn't understand.........
Let her rip...

Because that would be incredibly boring!

I agree. It will be interesting to see what you come up with to make everything fit. Some want the running gear for an old pickup, some want the frame and body for a builder, some like them stock. I like them all, just curious what reasons different people have. Have fun.

It's coming along, I have had a few distractions along the way, moving, 12+ hour shifts at work etc.. but slowly progressing....been working on shifter linkage for the xfer case and it's just about done, had to move the hole for the transmission shifter as well, found a little bit of rust on the rear passenger side wheel well so cut that out and welded in new metal about a 2''x4'' section... should have the doghouse back on before long and hopefully will crank it up in the not too distant future....I have been taking pics of progress and will update the thread as another milestone approaches....
Let her rip.....

hang in there... Every now and then life gets in the way.

Are you going to reuse the stock gas tank?
Did you buy a kit for the fuel delivery? Filter, fuel pump etc.

What are your plans for the a/c hook ups. You going to reuse stock condenser?

Thx

Yes, The stock tank is being used, no kit for fuel delivery, I got the pump and filter from summit, can supply part numbers later if needed as for a/c adapting the lines over to the toyota system and leaving everything else as it was......

Thanks for sharing.

I'll be doing this swap later in the year, but with an Auto tranny. getting all details squared away now so my progress is not slowed down.

If you could;

More Pics please.

More Details if you can.

Part #'s and where you sourced the product helps those who follow your lead.

Sharing any do's and don'ts, etc.

thanks.

Opinions already added but I will add mine too!

The v8 is great because you take a lack luster, heavily smogg'ed, slow as can be, gas hog that lacks power and replace it with something much improved. Not to mention cheap and easy to maintain with the v8.

Myself, I will never go back to a stock engine in a Cruiser unless it is just to hold me over until I can do a swap! To slow, sucks to much fuel, to expensive to maintain, harder to get parts for and a hell of a lot less fun to drive. The old 2F & 3F may be reliable but I just don't see a lot more going for it.

Why not improve an old Cruiser rather than buy a Tahoe!? Many many reasons....

Cheers

See if I can get a picture to work.....got the indicator for 4wd light working....made the bracket for the linkage hold the sending unit and a teflon insert bolted to a piece of angle welded to the shifter stem...also a shot of the tunnel cover with the shifter hole relocated....coming along nicely....

Ok so here is some ketchup pictures, since the forum has been refreshed I figured the least I could do would be to update this thread...been taking care of the little details that will bring it all together, should get the front clip back on shortly and then you know what happens....here's some pix

Solid choice on the rear axle.

Currie 9" heavy duty housing, arb air locker, 35 spline axles, disc brakes, 1350 U-joint, 6 lug axles...

on the currie setup.. is that a bolt in solution from them? same configuration as the FJ60 rear in regard to axles..spring mounts..etc? Liiking the rear disks and air locker what you going to do for the parking brake?
