thats just amazing! say it was a Gov auction, any idea what it was used for? looks like they bought it and parked it when new........DAMN!

Man, i need a cigarette after looking at those pics. Yeah,it was that good....

Wow, you guys really like it. That makes me feel better about the $$$. I wish showing this thread to my wife would make her feel better about it- Ha- not gonna happen. Actually I managed to wrestle her into an "OK." but it took a month of prep and marital massaging. I think she could tell that if it came down to the "Me or the Cruiser" point she might be putting our marital status in jeopardy. Actually I was surprised that she was not only ok with it she really understands that this will be not only exciting for me but a relief time wise in terms of doing stuff with the family instead of cutting and welding etc.

Yes it will be garaged. No way I'd but it other wise as I just wouldn't be able to stand watching it out int he elements. (The snow/roofing tile incident happened when I had the bj44 out and was working on it BTW.) It does not have power steering but I have a full set that after a solid R&R might go on the truck. And unfortunately it does not have the 5 speed. If I ever find one i might consider it....... but I rarely even use the 4th gear. I have a 1973 bmw for road trips. Gotta have the right tool for the job!

I'm curious about a few things I noticed in the pictures. Is that rear fender well stock? I haven't seen a factory look like that before. Also, what are the giant black holes in the rear of the bed for? I was thinking possibly as a way to get to the bolts holding up the gas tank? They seem too big to be drain holes, and I'm not sure what else they would be for.

I've also never seen a cross bar behind the seats before. I'm wondering what the purpose of that was for? Structural integrity maybe? Being a longer FST then a stock FJ40. Very cool rig and congrats on the purchase!

Not sure if the fenders came like that on the 40's but on the 46 model i think 83 and 84- the last 2 years they were stock. The black plugs are for access to the the body mount nuts. The cross bar is just to kep people from sliding off the seats into the front of the truck in the event of hard braking. I've seen them up higher on a bj43 that I had for parts just to keep the load out of the front of the truck.
