Good to hear. This looks to be about my only option at this point, before drastically modifying the drivetrain. With 4.88s it would put me at 44:1. Not bad with the auto. Not to mention make my 4.88s feel like 5.29s on the road. This would be great for turning my 37s.

Question, did the gear that slides over your tranny output have longer splines that stock? I heard it did, and so it gets rid of the "clunk" that develops from the worn splines on the output.

If this is the case, this mod would kill 4 birds with 1 stone.
-Lower Low-Range
-Lower High-Range
-T-case rebuild
-Fixing the "clunk"

Yes the tranny output gear has longer splines than the stock one but not as long as the now very expensive and hard to get McGear. So you will be able to kill all those birds with the Mark's stone, with one possible exception: The clunk is not NECESSARILY caused by worn splines on the tranny output shaft. Some folks, like me, who have replaced the gear with a longer-splined one have found the clunk reduced but not gone, and since it coincides with a tcase rebuild it's hard to say which was even responsible for that reduction. Also, some folks--like me--have found that their splines are not worn at all, and yet they still have a clunk.

I have the 1.08-3.05. With 35's and 4:11's I am geared just right in high range.

Thanks for the reassurance. I installed the H55F with the 3.05 tc gears in my FJ40 project. I just guessed the ratio would be good with the 4.11 diffs and the 35" tires. How is your low range with the 4.11 and the low 1st gear?

I e-mailed a place (name not mentioned) in Oz about this replacement gearset for the split-case and recieved the response that the LandCruiser t-case is too weak so they do not make this complete t-case replacement gearset any longer.

Strange response I thought, seeing as they sell LandCruiser stuff, however to each their own...

The replacement gear Dan has is fully splined...I do not have my digital to take a pic, but it is one piece from PTO to Output gear. Someone posted a pic of one here a while back, but I can not find reference to it.

It is not a rock crawler, but respectable for sure...Dunno if the TLCA's new website has the caculator still available...but iirc and if just did my math right my combo is 60:1.

I had 4:56's in it first, and could not handle freeway driving. It's ok now.

I'd like to get the length of the spline settled on the gears that man-a-fre sells. STEVE-O, longer than stock? How much longer?

Also, what about a 44:1 crawl ratio with an auto? It would only be changing from a 33:1 ratio.

When is there going to be a 4.7 drop in set for the split case?

Last I heard the gearset on that webpage is no longer available. As well, I wish it were.

Here are some pics of the replacement gear Dan has.

In other words ... not [never?] low enough. :grinpimp:

I have about 80:1 in the 4Runner with 33's and think it's just barely acceptable. I guess 60:1 is better than stock, eh?

I'm right now more nearest to 70 in my TLC with 37" definetly not enough Crawl Ratio to do serius crawling .. but for mudd bogging is OK .. :D
