Lots of Searching but no visor shelf

Any updates on this? Even though I have the LX and I see the piece of the headliner that is a problem, I am still interested. I would consider removing the fiberglass or modifying it in some way that it works better.

Akella hooked me up and here is my report.

I have a Canadian LX450 with the moulded headliner, my plan was to install and then evaluate if I needed to cut my headliner or something else.

Once I removed the existing sunroof controls, I test fitted the shelf and it seemed like it would work as is!

I have small hands, so there is enough space for me to reach in, but more space would be more comfortable. I can push on the mould on the headliner and break the fiberglass, I may do that more when I remove my shelf to install visors. I have not decided what I am going to do with visors yet, I will probably grab something from the local pick and pull before I decide on a permanent solution.

I ran into 2 small problems installing the sunroof controls. The screw holes are set up for a RHD truck, so the controls are "backwards", this isn't a big problem and I'll fix it next time I take it down. The other problem I ran into was plugging the controls back in was a big pain and I did not want to attempt to unclip with the shelf installed, so I installed an extra foot of wiring with a disconnect to make my life easier.

Thanks Akella!

On to the pics, I have some work to do with painting, visors and adding more accessories, but I like it a lot so far.

That's one of the better views so far. Seems good for books and stuff. Would it fit an ipad?

yeah, I was actually thinking it would be a great spot for an ipod. You could easily wire up a usb port and have a cord up there for charging, however the cord could get out of reach easily depending on where the usb port is.

also on the passenger side I have the owners manual and a torn up map book, the manual seems to fit perfectly.

As for you Map light saying it only works for a RHD, I was under the assumption it was made for a LHD as I had to spin mine around to line up with the hole....

I hear you on connecting the the map light to the harness it was a royal PITA but manger to make it work with my skinny fingers

I can post a more detailed picture in a bit.

yeah, my map light had to be spun to line up as well. Originally the map light was on the driver side and now the map light is on the pass side.

It's not really a problem, just turned from the original position.

I went to the local pick and pull and found a relatively new F150 with a tan interior. Pulled the visors and I'm pleased with the match.

I have work to do to clean up the mount, it's not flush now, that will help the visors fit flatter. The fit isn't perfect, but it is good enough for me.

The visors will be low for taller people, but i like it, the side is bendable so the grab handle interferes a bit, but you can adjust around it.

Was just thinking about this thread yesterday and was wondering the same thing. Still drooling over the one my buddy has in his Silverado K5.

I believe Akella still has some available and can order more.

I love mine, I will have to add some updated pictures, I've cleaned it up a bit and added some electronics.

Im still working on getting mine in. Once I have my new engine in I plan to get the roof console in. Mine will be different than most though I have made a few changes to suite my needs.

I don't think it was a finalized piece really. It seems like each person had to customize some portion of it to do what they wanted. I was very interested in the beginning but until I see one in person I've held off.

Happy to let go of mine. Its been painted in colour matched tan and never fully installed. I used shelf liner on the inside (can't be seen) so that any loose stuff wouldn't rattle

Finally, here are some updated pictures.
I've added a fuse panel (the bussman black box), an outlet, some buttons (that arent' aligned correctly) 2 cameras (for side viewing, they work ok).

Looks good, what do those 2 cameras show you that you can't already see?
