IME that pipe assembly has a habit of developing corrosion long before
some other areas in the engine bay. Either way, IMHO, it's a mini-pm to check it for corrosion and if you find any clean/paint/coat it before it turns to dust. FWIW.

the factory packs open cell foam around it to seal off the passage way. That foam holds water well.

And that’s where I’m at. The prior owner talked a good game, but as I go further down the head gasket rabbit hole, he did little if anything to maintain the vehicle. Granted, it’s lived it’s life in the northeast which is unusually harsh to vehicles, but the shortcuts taken were unconscionable.

The work around is using hose straight to the cooler and back. Put the hose in a sleeve or something to protect it from chaffing in that spot.

Recenty was able to get a 80 for $1200 because the "trans was bad". In reality that part had a pin hole rusted in it and leaked all the trans fluid out.

That looks sweet! I live in mass and I’m fixing up a 91 80 series in my garage. I noticed mine leaking and tried a hose clamp but it’s toast. And they don’t make it easy to get your hands in there. What kind of pipe did you use ??? Thanks for the help

I ended up using this. Probably not the highest quality material but it is working for now.
I also doubled up on the hose clamps because I couldn’t add the ridges to the pipe I bent.
Tried to cut the old pipes and use the original bracket, but that didn’t work. The company I work for has a wide variety of silicone foams so I ran the tubes through the foam, then pressed the foam into the hole. Has held up for the past month.

Thanks for the info! What did you use to bend it? I was thinking a brake line tool may work. Also did you have to remove anything in the engine bay to be able to get it all taken apart easier?

I used a handheld bender (see below)

Battery, battery tray needed to come out. I think I also had to remove the small light under the headlight to access the bolts for the bracket.

Bringing this back @tVille80 to ask how the custom made pipe assembly turned out? Were you able to make a bracket or salvage the old bracket (desolder it from the original pipes??). Also did you flare the ends of the pipe ie: using a brake tubing flare tool?

For bracket take two adell clamps, put one on each pipe and then run a bolt and nut though the two adell clamp holes this locking them together, do this on turbines all the time. I can post pic tomorrow if you need an example

@Kernal, I did something similar to what @ajax1 mentions here.
I didn't flare the ends of the pipes, but hasn't caused any issues yet.
Since I didn't re-use the bracket the tubes were free to move in the passageway. To minimize movement I pushed the tubes through water resistant silicone foam then squeezed the foam into the passageway.

I wish I could have come up with something more elegant for the bracket, but the above is working for now.
