I came accross these 2 80 series for sale. The specs for the first one are:

1994 vin JT3DJ81W1R0051489 It has almost 108k on a 4.5 l motor. I was told there are some issues with the motor so , what problems are inherent with these rigs. I think I heard there were head gasket issues and this may be it but not sure.

The second rig is:

1997 vin JT3HJ85J7V0178127 It has almost 123k on the clock

What info does these vin's provide, is there a site that will provide the info? and what should I expect to pay. I've read the posts on buying and they all seem to go for around the 7 to 10K range depending on condition, of course.

thx

Check out Carfax.com

Put the VIN in that site (it does cost a nominal amount) and you may find some interesting things about either vehicle.

Whenever buying a vehicle I use Carfax (and other sites - fairly local to where I live) to find out as much as possible before a purchase. Depending on what you find, you may be able to get a lower price!

Carfax isn't exactly a nominal fee...

1 CARFAX Report for $34.99
5 CARFAX Reports for $44.99

but not expensive either if shopping around multiple vehicles :)

It has gone up so much! I remember when it was like $10 for a single report and $30 for a month. Now they are just gouging you!

Thanks, I guess I didn't make myself clear but after doing more research I believe I need more info from the data plate.
What I wanted to know is if the VIN would tell me what options were available on the car such as lockers, 4x4 etc. but after reading more than 2 encyclopedias worth of info I think what I need is on the data plate and not the VIN.

I will see if I can get that info...

thx

Goodluck

Both have the 1FZE. However, the 97 will have a newer computer. If in the future, you will want to add a supercharger, then go with the 97. The supercharger will work with both years, just easier with the 97 as there are design differences

The locked axles would be indicated by having "K294" on the data plate (instead of "K292").

Good luck!

I'd personally go with a 95-97. The OBDII, the new ECU/FUEL/EFI system are both great plusses IMO. And the interior is also updated quite a bit from the pre 95's.

What's your email address, I'll email you over teh history reports.
