I've not had a bit of trouble with mine. Love em!

I spoke with Bobby when I picked them up at his shop and he confirmed the increased hardness giving the axles a longer life. He also mentioned that he'd be happy to rebuild them if they ever wore out.

Bobby and his wife are good people, the community is lucky to have them. Highly recommend supporting his products!
I could not have said it better myself. The continued support after the purchase can not be beat.

I have a 97 and the abs ring pressed right on the birfs no problem. The groove is machined in to all his birfs for the abs ring, should you need it.

Not sure it really matters, have not heard of anyone breaking a Long in a 80 yet. I think the 3rd becomes the next fuse in the front end once the birfs are upgraded.

As 80s become more popular/affordable and with more people using the factory axles for swaps in other vehicles, the need/demand for more strength will come. Its already started on pirate.

Interestingly, the 30 spline mini truck long is stronger than the 80 long. i was a little disappointed to find that out after i sold all my mini stuff and bought 80 axles for both my projects.

For those that will be pushing their equipment a little farther with bigger tires and more motor but want to stay toy, it matters.

What makes you say the mini-truck stuff is stronger?

Last time I talked to Bobby, he couldn't break the 80 birf on his testing machine.

The birf is stronger, but the 30 spline mini inner axles are arguably stronger than the 24 spline 80 inner. it may be a moot point. I dont own 80 longs yet, so i dont have first hand experience with both.

Here are the 80's longs vs the small stuff. I bought both of them and gave the small stuff to my buddy Jon. From talking to Bobby, and then beating on these in a geared, supercharged V8 with 39" sticky tires I don't think the 80 stuff has anything to worry about when it comes to strength.

and yes Tapage 27 spline

ill grab a birf from my shop after work tomorrow and confirm, but even Nitro's website says their Chromo 80 birfs are 30 spline/big 24.

I have never talked to Bobby about FJ80 stuff, but you're saying the 80 birf is stronger than a 4340 35 spline 60 axle? If it is, then that is sweet. im a little nervous about stepping up to 41.5" rockers, but will probably do it anyway.

i dont doubt 80 stuff is strong, but i cant find where its been tested. i would like to know the real numbers.

Are you comparing birfs to inner shafts? I am sure that a longfield FJ80 inner axle is not as strong as a 4340 1.5" Dana 60 inner axle, but I don't think that was ever a question.

Now there is a lot of discussion about using softer/stronger inner axles with the stock elocker and the splines twisting and having issues pulling the shafts.

Also there are concerns using the Poly Performance rear chromo's and shearing the studs off of the hub. (Which I have done on the pavement) If you are going to 41.5" on a heavy truck you have to upgrade your studs and pins at a minimum.

But I think that the question in this thread was if the Longfield birfs could be used as a cost effective replacement for a truck driven on the highway, lasting for an adequate amount of time, and also providing some strength benefit and I absolutely think they can.

If you are going over 40"s, doing hard wheeling, and have a heavy truck, you would be money ahead just swapping Dana 60's in.

I know this thread is a little old but has anyone found an ARP stud replacement for the weaker stud? Just curious or does anyone know the size of the stud?
