The 768+ mile range would be kinda nice, but the $200+ fillups would kinda suck

Did I mention we are having a holiday sale.............?? $200 off per tank - buy one of each and save $400 plus the second tank ships for free.
Ward, will this apply to the unreleased 100 series 24gal aux tank? And when you say holiday sale, which holiday and when will the sale end?

I’m curious why you guys want a 24G aux tank over a 40 galon main tank replacement?

Wouldn’t it be easier / simpler just to have a 40 gal main tank and move on?

Along the same lines as question of 40 gallon aux tank or 24 gallon aux tank - a decision that may be impacted by customer preference for better clearance and less weight at full load of fuel through the smaller aux tank.

^^^this ;)

Well.....since the tank doesn't exist yet.......sure! Will take refundable deposits but delivery may be January. Georg is on a trail in Arkansas with a Turk, so let me get back to you for final details.

The holiday will likely be either Oktoberfest or Halloween and will run until end of October.

youre going to spend the $$ on gas either today or down the road, doesnt really matter. Id rather have less fill ups and time wasted for 3 trips to the gas station.

Having done this ~25 years ago on an 80 series, I understand the math of it pretty well. At least for me, there is still a bit of a mental shock, when your fillup takes multiple card swipes, and is 3x the “normal” cost. That being said, I’ll more than likely add one or both to my vehicle (and my son’s) in the near future.

Tank Sale
Thanks for the question. There are basically three answers for the 100 Series:
  1. In stock / in production / in transit for delivery in October or November - 40 gallon replacement main tank and 40 and 24 gallon auxiliary tanks for 1998-2002 model years
  2. Available for order with delivery in December - same as #1 above
  3. In development for production with estimated delivery in early 2019 - 37 (estimated) gallon replacement main tank and 37 (estimated) and 24 gallon auxiliary tanks for 2003-2007 model years
We are taking orders on all tanks in Categories 1 and 2 at $200 discount from regular price of $1,595 (plus shipping/handling from Stockton, CA) for any of the kits. Pay on order for the tank and we will fulfill from stock if available and if not, when our production order for the sale arrives in December.

If you have a 2003 to 2007 and want a tank from Category 3, we will take a reservation with a refundable $500 deposit against sale purchase price of $1,395, with the balance (plus shipping/handling from Stockton, CA) due when tanks ship from Australia.

In the last year as we have built this new enterprise, our challenges have been largely engineering and logistics - ordering, import shipping and domestic delivery. Marketing, sales and service as well, but most of our effort and investment have been focused on adapting the LRA products to US specifications and updating/enhancing sales and technical documents to better meet our needs here. It is still a work in progress but we are getting it done. The late 100 Series tank development effort in #3 above is an example.

We would love to sell you a late 100 tank today, but until the prototypes are installed and documented, we cannot do that. We can take reservations to ensure that owners have a place in line. We require the deposit to ensure that the reservation holders are sincere and likely to pull the trigger when tanks are available.

Please feel free to call me with questions at 209-636-0831. If you want to buy a tank, please go to this link Request a Quote - to begin the process - tell us what you want and where you live and we will quote price with shipping. Thanks!

We sell tanks to help meet needs. It is a challenging, entertaining and satisfying business for us. We get to sell a product people want, deal with great folks (owners and shops) and hopefully make a few dollars.

Unlike lifts, big wheels/tires, armour, etc. fuel tanks are not exactly fashion accessories or very sexy. Our customers seem to be driven by three primary utillity motivations:
  1. Back country travel - either offroad or long trips on secondary roads with limited access to reliable fuel sources.
  2. Convenience, safety and security - owners that don't want to stop as often, in the wrong neighborhood or in the midst of a hurricane or tropical storm, when fuel simply may not be available.
  3. Fuel cost - owners that plan their fuel purchases and stock up when lower cost fuel is available
Some examples:
  1. Our friend Robert Knasel of Triad Expeditions Triad Expeditions is taking his well-equipped FJ Cruiser and teardrop to the Arctic Circle. Heavy rig with a Magnuson s/c gets 11 mpg when loaded and towing and a 19 gallon factory tank. He will have 60 gallons of LRA tank capacity when he and his family depart from Ohio next year.
  2. Our first FJC customer (Beau) wanted a replacement tank for his 2WD pavement rig in Louisiana and I asked him why - his answer? Family security as his wife drives many hours per week for her business with two babies on board. Fewer fuel stops, more control over when and where she stops for fuel - including avoidance of sketchy neighborhoods. A bigger margin for error.
  3. Even with a bone stock GX or Tacoma, our vehicles are not exactly economy rigs. Cost of fuel can be managed if you plan ahead. Save 10% on a 40 gallon fill-up and you just got a 1% dividend/return on your tank purchase.

We are here to serve if you have a need (or a want) :)

How far does the replacement 40 gallon hang below the factory tank? Does the factory gas gauge and pump work with the replacement tank?

See photo below, couple inches or so.

Yes, the OE sender is modified to lengthen the float arm so the OE gauge reports accurately on the increased capacity of the new tank. Here is the mod from the instructions along with a photo of similar mod from the 80 Series tank.

3. Remove the fuel pump assembly from the OE tank and lengthen the fuel pump
frame with the bracket provided also lengthen the float arm by 75mm using the
95mm length of rod, this allows for a 10mm overlap on the joins. Lengthen the fuel
pump wires by soldering and using fuel resistant heat shrink tube. Extend the return
line on the pump assembly with the 95mm length of 8mm ridgid plastic tubing and
the joiner. This allows the return line to reach to bottom of the tank. Fit the unit to the
tank and check the float arm travel. Fit the OE roll over valve to the tank.

So lets say you have a 40 main. And the fuel pump went out. Would you have to drop the tank. Or can it still be accessed threw the top of the truck?

I don't know, will ask the tech team. Can you get to the fuel pump in the OE position through the floor?

Georg @orangefj45 is headed back from the Southern Cruiser Crawl but he texted that the access point is for the sending unit, not the pump, so he thinks that both OE and LRA tanks would require dropping to replace failed pump.

Well this is the good news I've been waiting for ever since I bought my cruiser. I will be ordering one of the 24g aux tanks for the 03+ as soon as they are available. Thanks Ward.

Glad we could help. Call me when you want to get on the reservation list.

I am 100% in for the 37 gallon replacement main tank and 24 gallon auxiliary tanks for my 05 LX470.

The price is going to kill me though, over $2,800 for the 2 tanks. Im going to need to find a different job.

Must be a cheaper way to do this, anyone look into local custom tank shops?

We definitely understand these things are not inexpensive, which is why we focus on efficiencies of ordering, shipping, etc. including advance purchase sales promotions. Before we jumped into the business as importer/agent for LRA, we considered a bunch of alternative vendors, including custom builds in US. The issues we found had to do with emissions, quality control and the number of kits that are in demand by the North American market.

Since December, 8 kits have been developed/adapted for North American market - or are in process. We offer 60 kits in this market and can get any of the 300+ kits that LRA sells worldwide. Our new tank list for North America is attached.

We know owners and shops that have gone local "custom fab" as one-offs and that may be an option for some if price is really a big consideration. Two items we have seen in other cases - higher delivered cost than the LRA option and issues related to connections and emissions.

To help detail the process should you wish to "roll your own" our 200 Series aux tank instructions are attached. The newer 100 Series have an emission system that is similar to the 200, so worth a look.

Or you can order to get $400 off plus free shipping on the second tank. :)

Good luck!

Ward
