I am planning on a Dissent rear bumper in the future. Any idea how the added rear x-member with this bumper would affect fitment of your tank?

The attachment of aftermarket bumpers was something that I definitely had to take into consideration. The 45 gallon sub-tank I had fabricated originally attached the rear cross member and the cross member close to the axle. I realized that wasn't going to work with some aftermarket bumpers. So the new design will attach to the side frame rails (via the holes for the spare tire cross member) and the aforementioned cross member near the axle. There should be plenty of room behind the sub-tank for aftermarket bumpers. I'll need to look at the Dissent rear bumper assembly at some point before finalizing however. I have Slee and BIOR rear bumpers here in my shop that I have planned around.

Cruiser brothers will probobly have some more info on this. @wardharris

I know they are bringing tanks in for the 200s

Yeah, they are certainly doing exciting things! And now being dealers for LRA is huge. Honestly, if you want a large sub-tank for a 1998-2002 100 series, buying a LRA tank through @wardharris is the way to go. I may buy an 80 series replacement main tank from them.

Will it be flush or higher with the frame rails?

The goal is to be slightly higher than the frame...may have to be flush.

Yeah, I definitely concur! I have been mulling buying an 80 series tank from them. Being a dealer for LRA is an awesome opportunity! The only problem is that LRA doesn't make a rear sub-tank that can work in 2003+ petrol 100 series Cruisers nor do they make a smaller than 46 gallon rear sub-tank.

LONG RANGE AUTOMOTIVE TANKS FROM CRUISER BROTHERS

Hi guys. Yes, Georg Esterer (@orangefj45) and I as Cruiser Brothers is exclusive distributor for Long Range Automotive in North America. We have received multiple shipments since December and have both air and sea shipments under construction. We support the entire range of LRA products, including tank kits for Jeeps and other marques. Our web site is under construction during remodel in order to reflect the expanded product line. We are also now importing/distributing transmission upgrades for Toyota automatics from Wholesale Automatic Transmissions - also based in Victoria, Australia.

We have partnered with LRA to develop a functional, smog compliant auxiliary tank for US spec 200 Series in 40, 24 and 13 gallon capacities. Our tank thread in the 200 Forum has been up for five months and has garnered almost 400 posts and the survey there has 95 indications of interest for 200 Series tanks. Auxiliary Fuel Tanks for 200s

LRA offers two tank kits for all years of US spec 100 Series:
  • TLC100IFSEFR - Replacement main tank with 40 gallons of capacity and four hour estimated install
  • TLC100AX - Auxiliary tank with 42 gallons of capacity and five hour estimated install, using twin-fill replacement tube and OEM fuel door - requires relocation of spare
Some additional details:
  • Kits contain all required parts, including combination fuel gauge / pump control for the aux tank
  • Price for each is $1,595
  • Tanks function with US emission systems and pass smog if correctly installed in well maintained rigs
  • Available for order - get a written proposal at this URL Request a Quote - OR call me (Ward) at 209-636-0831 with questions, suggestions, etc.
  • If there is demand for smaller version of the aux tank, we can likely make that happen. When we launched the 200 discussion, there were Large (42 gallon) and Small (16 gallon) versions in production. As we worked through mods for emission compliance and ease of install (reducing capacity by several gallons to clear the charcoal canister) we also developed a Medium sized tank at 24 gallons.
  • LRA can also supply stainless steel tanks for potable water on board. One could replace main tank with 40 gallons of fuel and add a rear tank for water.

LRA products have been in the US market for many years. Al at the "old" Man A Fre imported selected models for 40s, 60s, etc. but the survivor firm now outsources production to US (I think) jobbers and then only from time to time. Ben Meddows at Outback Proven distributed LRA tanks and helped build the brand during that firm's bright, but brief time in our market before winding down five years ago.

Our largest sellers today are Tacoma, FJ Cruiser and Jeep variants. Lots of 40, 60, 80 and 100 tanks as well. The 200 Series kits will be joined by models for 4Runner and GX variants as time permits for development.

We encourage development of new products in response to evolving or unmet needs. Trail Tailor, 4x4 Labs, etc. do a grand job of meeting US needs for armor and other components. The challenge is how to design, manufacture and distribute a complicated product with high levels of quality, with customer service and a profit at the end. In the tank business, legal, compliance and regulatory issues all provide challenges not present with other products.

Roger and Anthony Beimers - co-founders / owners of LRA - have been making tanks for thirty years. Georg and I have some skills, experiences and resources that help to create an integrated offering of proven fuel solutions in this market. We just got back from a week in Melbourne and the working and personal relationships are close and productive.

We are open for business, taking orders, shipping tanks and working to make the products better with the help of our friends, customers and partners. We are building a network of authorized dealers to sell, install and service LRA products across the country.

Fantastic news @wardharris !!! As soon as tax season (and any potential carnage) is over I'll be trying to decide between the two for my 98.

Any chance of a 20 gal fuel/20 gal drinking water solution in the spare tire hole???

I am a little thick.... you mean water in place of the aux fuel tank that goes in that location?

Separate question - do you know of a Bend shop that might like to be an authorized dealer for LRA? Need some commitment and specialization, but we are building a network of "safe places to buy and install" the entire LRA line.

Thanks!

I think he means in place of a full 40gal tank in spare tire, a split tank for 20gal fuel/ 20 gal water.

Do the 42gal main tank replacements come with all the necessary hardware (straps, hoses, etc.), does the factory pump swap over? My tank is looking pretty rusted out and finding a new OEM is about the same cost as an LRA.

Thanks.

@FLWookie got it - yes basically a 20 gal fuel tank, and then a separate 20 gal water tank (or same external shell with 2 different bladders/fill nozzles/etc). I need both more than I need one and doubt I'm aone so thought I would throw it out there.

Yes I know the perfect shop, email me landsharkoutfitters@gmail.com and I'll connect you

Ah, I now see. We discussed at length in Australia last week.

Such combos in Aussie market wherein fuel tanks are aluminized steel and the potable water tanks stainless steel. Two completely different systems with shared/interdependent mounting. LRA does not do combo tanks. They have seen a number of other manufacturer products of this type and they do not believe it is the right way to go (two tanks Siamese'd together) due to rust, stress, etc. There may be demand, but not their way of doing things.

This pic is from the Long Range Automotive website for the 150L replacement tank. It does look like it hangs down a few inches, but the angle could make it seem more than it is. I'm very interested in this main tank replacement option, but like you, am wondering how far past the frame rails it goes.

Can certainly recommend Tor Slinning @ Torfab in the N. Seattle area. He does all sorts of builds on 40,60,80 & 100 series.
We know Tor well, not currently one of our shops, happy to work with him/them.

This is the best photo of TLC100IFSEFR that I have seen. We brought one of these in on the last shipment and it is getting installed in the next week or two. Will ask shop for photos.

The 42 gallon tank is an add-on aux tank. The replacement main is 40 gallons. Yes, pump gets reused, but lots of guys buy new.
