Don't forget you need new springs or airbags now too :). There will be approx 265lbs of fuel plus the weight of the tank, and then the spare is moved back (more leverage on the rear springs due to weight distribution).
I really wish I could afford a mod like this, but I can't, I hope you guys can make it happen anyways. :D

Kevin, don't forget the dual filler neck. From what I understand those are getting difficult to source.

Scott,
I think I saw you in La Jolla the other morning. You have a grey 100? I was at the light at Torrey Pines and Soledad. I was driving my 80 with a surf ski on top.

Correct! I found a few sources for those! Thanks for the heads up! Check your email!

if you are going overhead console you might want to look into the OZ aftermarket extensions that allow you to put a single din cb up there as well. I think Marks sells them.

I would be kind of interested in knowing the price you source for the console/visors.

Yep, that was me. I remember seeing your truck. I was thinking....what a slacker...going to La Jolla Shores to paddle on a work day!!!

Kevin,

RE: 864

They held the FULLY loaded 80 (70 gallons gas, 18 gal h2o, two people, dog, and food and drink for two weeks in Baja) beautifully. Actually it was one of the few times my 80 has actually sat "level."

cool

thanks robb

I too was happy with the 864 in the back (with spacers for a 4" lift years ago). It handled the weight of the tank, fuel, tool and camping equipment and all the armor and the family. Great set of spring for the extra weight. later robbie

I tried the very first set of rear in the back of my truck for the rubicon and they did not fair so well (a preproduction set I beleive). then after that the 6 inch kit for the rear came in two flavors, med and heavy. The heavy was the same spring rate but wound a little taller. These worked well but lost height (Measured at the rear bumper)over time, (close to two inches, fixed it with one inch spacers). It handled the load well and my handling did not suffer that much. I found I had to run 4 inch rear bump stops instead of two inch to run the 36 swampers. They lasted about a 1 year before I noticed the lose of height. then Christo ordered some custom springs that had about 200lbs carrying capacity. These seem to be working OK, handle the loads. I have the 44 gallon tank, drawer system, rear bumper tire carrier, carry a fridge, 15 lb CO system in one of the drawers with fluids, spare parts, grease, tools. The other drawer gets first aide kit, manual and food on camping trips. I regularly load it up in the summer with camping gear and family. Sits slighly above level in this mode. when empty is more than slightly above level. It wheels well in this set up too. With so much spring it walks over stuff great.
I have only had these springs for about 6-7 months(custom extra heavy) so I also have not measured them against my notes in since then, but seemed to have settled some, but not bad.
The one negative thing I have against the springs is the paint is coming off and they are rusting. I will have to remove them this summer and have them recoated or paint them myself. Maybe the salt or the Mag cloride we have on the roads. It would be nice if the paint had lasted longer.
Any specfic questions that my statement did not cover. later robbie

Kevin -

As I mentioned in that other thread, I've never been able to justify the cost of the overhead console, however kewl it may be.

If you decide to go the simple route, it is very easy to set up your fuel gauge to read either primary or subtank... a toggle switch and some wire & terminals is all it takes.

Cheers, R -

PS: This would only work if you are using the OEM subtank sender, or a sender that had the same resistive range as the sender in the primary tank. That might not be the case with the Long Ranger tank, now that I think about it... R -

I beleive that The long rangerer that I have came with a factory fuel sensor that I had to bend. It is not by any means as acurate as the main tank but is a great indication of how much fuel is in side. I then put a toggle switch beside the steering wheel and ran wires to spilt the system. i can read both tanks one at a time with a flick of a switch off the dash tank indicater. I also set a simple system with a single relay to operate the fuel pump to fill the main tank, with almost factory looking switch in one of the blank spots. With the transfer pump i have it takes about 15-20 minutes to fill the main tank depending on the level of fuel I have. Any how there is a few ways to make a system work. later robbie

Thanks for the info guys!

Why not the Opposite Lock 190L tank? Replaces stock and gives 50 gal capacity. Granted that's 15 or so less than what you're looking at, but with less complexity.

Yes, but that is also adding ALL of the weight to ONE side of the rig. I dont really dig that. I would prefer to be more balanced! That and they never returned any of my emails! :D Daryl @ Out Of Town 4WD and i have been discussing this alot! Top notch service on the other side of the world!

Hi guys. Sorry I'm late to the party.

Stripping away non-essentials, Mangler, have you a complete parts solution? A complete parts and assembler solution?

If yes to either, please identify total cost for each.

If yes to either, how do I join the group purchase? Can parts be [drop] shipped to purchaser not in San Diego? Or what is additional shipping cost to zip code 59801?
