Diesel still going down here in Guatemala (and cheaper than gasoline). Q26.59/gallon or $3.55/Gallon USD

that's getting better...

I said to myself I might fill a drum if it goes below a buck. But with economic whoas it might drop even more.

WTF! gas this morning $1.10, but diesel is still up at $1.25?

I'm no petroleum expert, but even with this new "low sulpher" stuff we have now, doesn't diesel take less refining to produce, therefore should be less expensive than gas (like it used to be) ?

Here in alberta we are hearing of a local shortage due to refinery problems in the edmonton area. Maybe your diesel in BC comes from AB. Or, it could be your gov't.

Gas can be had here for $0.86 and diesel is still at $1.15. Big difference. I may start using the 45 as a DD.

If I remember correctly the only refinery capacity in BC is Chevrons Burnaby Refinery which puts out ~10,000 bbl/day of diesel and Husky's Prince George Refinery at ~5,900 bbl/day. To contrast when everything is online in Alberta you are looking at ~120,000bbl/day of diesel production.

Here in BC, Diesel has been quite a bit more than gas for awhile, all summer etc when there is no real demand for home heating oil etc.

First, you don't need to listen to the sarcasm so typical of the rich and politically correct... Besides local and political reasons which have been stated here, there are two REAL reasons for this: high demand from third world countries who have been lured to diesel beacuse of its energy content and efficiency (they have too little to burn as it is) and low production capacity in North America (our refineries convert a lot of the diesel stock to gasoline and we've actually become net importers of diesel).

Diesel in Tapachula, Mexico today..... 6.66 pesos/liter or $0.63/liter Canadian or about $2.00 US/gallon! I filled up the long range tank in the '55 with 160 liters!!

The attendant asked it it had a modified tank! I just said it's an expedition vehicle.

No, and at this time of year when it gets cold, the demand for heating oil increases.

No... Diesel is less refined than gas and is cheaper to make.

Heating oil is not diesel, if the demand for heating oil goes up you cant just say that one oil byproduct is going to go up in price - every oil byproduct should increase in price.

If not, they are gouging us even more.

Indeed, diesel is made from the same group of distillates as heating oil so when heating oil demand rises in winter so do diesel prices.

IOW, ohrly?, diesel is slightly more processed heating oil with less sulfur, a higher cetane level and special lubricant additives.

Heating oil also smells different when burnt in an engine from Diesel. I was told once that's how experienced inspectors catch people using heating oil in their engines (besides the dye test - heating oil is reddish whereas diesel is slightly greenish).

dyed diesel basicly is the same as the heating oil...
you can run your diesel on it but the dye will remain and you can get busted in Ontario for doing so...
