I know I'm new around here- but based on what I've seen I'm pretty sure that you should buy that fella's cruiser. You know the guy and have first hand experience with him- and obviously respect him very much. I can't see how that truck could mean as much to anyone else because no one else would have the as complete of a picture.

I have a 1965 Dodge 4 door truck with about 55,000 miles on it. It was set up by the original owner to travel down to mexico and camp etc. EVERY available dealer option and then some- Triple tanks/ Viking T-bar seats, intercom to talk to the camper, Cassette recorder for logging trip info, Mark4 AC etc etc. I mean this truck set up. - this guy- whom I never met- Glen bought this truck in 65 and set it up right and I always wish I could have met him even once. I bought the truck not because I love Dodge trucks or even wanted a 4 door of the era. I bought is because it had survived with the mark of the original owner. For me getting in it is like time travel. I really wish I could have met Glen.

Anyway enough of that. Please proceed with the topic at hand...

Best!

Pete

wow

would love to have one of those rear steps?

Few more pitures. The toll kit was missing the lug wrench (I have a clean one at the cabin) and index label. Not sure but I think a OEM head gasket kit for the F135 is no longer available. Some of the parts books I got answered some of the burning question about early TLCs. Thing like the Eaton heater was more than a dealer option. They are listed in the Toyota parts pricing. What to know if your cruiser came with a centered diff. Give a frame number and I can tell you:rolleyes:

So Johnny I know your the soft top Guru. Do you have anything on a Husky soft top sold thru Toyota for non-top cruisers and as a replacement for the OEM tops?

thats new

I know that Husky made hubs wasnt it the selectros before being bought by dualmatic ...and dualmatic made soft tops :hhmm:

interesting...was this in the manuals that you got there?

Yes Johnny it's in the Toyota pricing book. Plus there was a single page sales lit from Husky that was in the front of the book loose. Shows the Husky soft top on a FJ40. It's a two sided sheet. Now I suppose you what me to scan it.

I just wish there would have been more that just pricing on the Eaton heater. The pricing was for a heater and the price for a option outside air kit. Don't believe I've ever seen the outside air kit

Mind reader LOL :D

very cool...

as far as i knew the only replacement for the oem bows was the Kayline

the toyota number for the kayline was 00021-14260

the number shows up for 72-73 and 76-77

The top did not fit the OEM bows as far as I know. It sure didn't match the factory door. I believe it was already cost prohibitive to buy OEM replacement back then Cheaper just to buy a whole new top. Curious it was about the same price in the book for a OEM PTO winch as it was to buy a aftermarket Ramsey winch. Which also listed a rear winch. That rear winch pricing is where it showed up to what VIN had the centered diff.

Curious where was the crank handle kept on these old cruisers.:meh: It's not listed on the index card for the tool kit. The 70 has it just in with the tool kit. The jack has a clamp under the driver's seat. The jack rods fit in brackets under the passenger's side jump seat but where did the crank handle go.

this shows it from 69-79 on the wheel well...there is a picture here on mud that has this exact clip setup
hand crank clips.webp

That is the crank you use to start the engine. Not sure how long it was really stock in the FJ40s. My FJ25s or at least some of them have the clips. My FJ45 also has the clips. The piece I'm talking about is the yellow handle that mates to the two rods that are used to operate the jack.

mine had two additional pairs of clips next to the crank clips on top of the wheel well to hold the two jack handle rods. Had to pull them for the rear jump seat install. Remember my 25 originally had a rear bench seat so this set up might be different. I've seen them mounted on the vertical face of the rear wheel wells also.

I have the two crank rod clips on the drivers side and the FJ55 crank rod fits perfectly/ I noticed there is two small screws between the rocker panel and the drivers seat/tool box I always wonder if another clip was supposed to go there.

NOS? Where were you able to find that? The letters and the ring around the outside are chrome not painted. So you need to chrome it then paint the rest the off white cream color. This is like the metal Land Cruiser emblems for the aprons. I redid the emblems on my 68 years ago because the black paint had faded and flaked off. It was kind of a pain to get the paint to stick to the chrome.

Now you just need to find the oval Toyota emblem for the hood.

So Toyota put a pretty complete tool kit in the early Land Cruisers. Did Jeep, Scout or Land Rover do anything close to this? I know jeep the passenger seat and spare tire were a option so I doubt they did. I have even heard a oil filter was a option. Scout I doubt it since they were just more local but what did Land Rover do? They were exporting them into many markets.

Just curious since I bought my first Land Cruiser in 1974 I've never bothered to look at anything else.

an ebay seller had listed some headlights and early fuse block covers that I inquired about along with any other items they had. I received pictures of about a dozen items, all NOS, the emblem was part of the package. it would have been cool if the seller had the original bag with part number. I was told most of the bags were gone.

Finally have a jack for the '64!

Missing 1 of the three parts to the handle, and the set screw to hold them together, and it is not 1964 vintage (the guy sold his '77, and let me have the jack for $20) but it will look great...and one day when I find a correct vintage for my '64, I'll have two :)

Not sure what I'm going to sell at this point. You do know the models with tailgates did not get rear step. Those had a trailer light socket and pintle hook. They show them in the owner's manual.

Have a problem Johnny our printer scanner is out of ink and shows a error code which has it locked up until ink is replaced. Not sure we want to waste money on ink when we hardly ever print anything. Worst case my wife can scan it at work next week. The bows look close to the original except for the B pillar. The doors are two piece and come apart. The piecing is about half of what it cost to buy a OEM soft top for a stripped FJ40 model.
