Lift size for 35's

Depends on what you are doing with them. Iceland trucks run huge tires 42"+, a heavy loaded strictly rock crawler might not want to push it past 35's. Know your intended purpose, and really by the time you are thinking 37's or 39's you should be able to make your own determination on what your axles can tolerate.
Yeah I was going to go for 33s at the most, although even that might be pushing it with my tired stock suspension and bushings.

It's just a shame to see people have to swap in Ford axles :vomit: to run bigger tires off road. I've also heard people say the LC axles are one ton capable but that might require longs and chroms to unlock that potential I suppose.

You must be listening to a different crowd than here.....

I read through one thread where someone wanted to put 40s on stock axles with some upgrades. I think it was suggested to switch to Dana 60s or super duty axles.
Lots of self appointed experts on the net, and even more people simply repeating what said experts have posted.

True. Didn't mean to beat a dead horse here, just shooting the breeze a bit I guess. I'm sure the drivetrain will be plenty strong for all but the most extreme crawlers out there.

When researching info on this subject it would be best to stick to threads no older than say 10 years with the best, real info being posted in the last five years. Owners have pushed the 80 well beyond what the original owners ever imagined and even the imaginations of those who were early mud members seeking to actually use their 80’s off road.
