Lift for FJ45 LWB?

Check out Old Man Emu (OME) for the 2.5" lift. Kurt with Cruiser Outfitters sells them among others.

I wanted 3.5" of lift and called Alcan to have custom springs made. Took them about a month to get them built. May people swear by them. I also went this option as I have a heavy non stock bed, winch, cage ect and I gave them the weights of my truck.

Is not cheap to lift a 45.

Hey Timbo, where in NM are you? Do you know of High Desert Cruisers? We have a club forum page here on Mud.

OME is your best best for lifting your 45. Man-a-fre or specter might sell 45 rear springs, I'm not sure; they aren't easy to find in the states besides OME. I bought OME for my troopy from Kurt at Cruiser outfitters, but I haven't installed it yet. I think 35s would be a bit of a tight fit for off-road, depending on shackle length, but probably just fine for on-road and mild off-road.

Timbo,

Like David said, I think 35" would be tight with OME. I have the 2.5" OMEs on my troopy with 33x10.50x15 BFG A/Ts, and there is plenty of room for any kind of wheeling I do. I have never had any rubbing issues with my OMEs. 35"s would fit, but I am pretty certain they would rub with any serious flex.

Overall, I have been very happy with my OMEs. I have the old Aussie-made ones on my HJ47, and the newer Asian-made OMEs on my FJ40. There is a slight but noticeable difference in fit and finish, but the ride, etc. all seems to be similar.

Cheers,

Josh

Found this picture on a Czech off road forum.

Tim:

Definitely bring your 45 if you can make the meeting 8/8. I should be there.

I'll also recommend the OME. It's what my 45 will get very soon. You can easily run 33s with the 2.5" lift.

Hey Ghetto, that 4" lift looks really good on there- but it looks like someone may have accidentally painted your roof red.:) How do you like the Alcan? I have a friend in Boulder with them on his FJ40, and he loves them. Are they still pretty smooth with the HD rear springs?

Timbo,

I'll second Dave and Dan's remarks on the High Desert Cruisers bunch. They are a great group of guys- even if they are mostly soft 8o drivers. Dave has taken over the role of token Troopy member at the meetings in order to bring a touch of class to the street full of grocery-getters.:D They could sorely use your FJ45 in the mix.

Cheers,

Josh

Give SOA some more thought. I never thought I'd do it, but am very glad that I did. If you do the work yourself, it's practically free. I've FJ60 axles, cut and turned the front and used the 60's front springs. It rides smoother than my wife's 80. Every spring lifted vehicle I've owned or ridden in rides rough as hell compared to it.
