The switches on the gear shift use whatever these are. I can't get the bulb out of the housing.

The gear shift area requires 3 of these and 1 T5 74. All white.

Sorry for the blurry picture. This bulb is tiny.

It might be one of these.

The plastic bayonet bases for PCB come in three sizes - T5, T4, T3, where the number is the base diameter in mm. Many vendors use the same led in all three bases.

I hate to bump an old thread, but after finishing my pfran LED kit I've got the itch. I don't think I've missed another thread in my searches, but in case I did, was there ever a definitive list of what we need to swap the cluster and hvac/center console to LEDs? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I also found this post which should be in the right direction:https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/ac-illumination.748876/#post-8694493

So pairing that with the info in this thread, I think adding another 6 #74 bulbs would take care of the gauge cluster as well. Any further insight would be appreciated!

I want to replace my control panel with LEDs I have a lx470 2000 and I have the auto climate and the height adjustment button and want to replace all bulbs from shifter to just below radio since I am installing after market radio. Can someone recommend a source and a list of all bulbs I would need? It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance! ;)

I just made my full purchase from superbrightleds.com. I'm sure the list in the link I posted above will get you started and on your way to figuring out the LX differences. I haven't installed yet, too many projects on the list...

Thanks for the info... my '01 LX470 had a few bulbs out, and I wanted to swap them with LED's. After pulling the cluster, I found that it's a bit more diffiicult than the TLC cluster. You can access five of the # 74 bulbs below:

This is a bit of a pain, but you have to unplug 8 connectors, 5 ribbons, and undo 15 screws to get to the transmission position bulbs. The connectors require a firm tug, but mark them first so you know where to reconnect them. The ribbons need to have the plastic locker pulled up before they can be pulled out (just like any circuit board). The screws are easy, of course. After disconnecting all of those, you need to pull up the circuit board because it's attached to a bunch of connector pins for all of the gauges.

The you get to the rest of the bulbs. There are 6 T4's for the transmission position bulbs. There are another 19 Type 74 bulbs under here.

I didn't buy enough the first time around. To summarize the 2001 (and I hope it's the same for other years) LX470 instrument cluster requires:
  • 6 T4's
  • 24 Type 74's
As you can see, my ECT PWR and 2nd start lights are now working. Thanks for the help!

@CanadianRockyCruiser have you seen the holsters that attach to the belly of the steering column? My buddy has one and loves it. It sits between your knees so it's hidden very nicely but still within quick reach. Of course if you wanna get technical you need to accompany that with a CCW permit

A bit off topic but,

CCW permit is called an ATC (authorization to carry) here in Canada. It about as easy to get, and as common, as a blessing of unicorns. We do not have a "right to bear arms"; here it is a privilege (like a drivers' license). I've got a "restricted/non-restricted" license which allows me to obtain certain semi-automatic guns that the RCMP has approved - sometimes they change their minds after the fact. I then must obtain an ATT (authorization to transport) from the RCMP, which allows me to take restricted guns to a range or a gunsmith - nowhere else. In all cases I need to use two locks to transport them, unloaded, in an opaque case. Do you think USA would take me in under political asylum?

The new LED's are bright enough to allow me to read either the license or ATT in the dark though, and they can dim nicely too! Maybe I'll file my political asylum papers under LED dashboard lights.

I am probably not the best person to ask that question as I know nothing about the political asylum process. However, has anyone successfully changed the bulbs that light the license plate? That might be something I'd like to do in the future

Thanks for asking my question before I could ask. That's nuts. And I'm sure it doesn't keep organized criminals from Asia from acquiring guns, either. No doubt in my mind that there are plenty of unlicensed/unregistered weapons in Canada.

Incidentally, do you have a castle law in Canada? What are the rules regarding guns stored in your home?

It wouldn't be terribly difficult for you to obtain asylum in the US, particularly here in Texas(Insert border joke here) Nafta has provisions which guarantee a relatively high number of spots for Canadians when compared to other countries. But we both know Alberta is a nice province to live:)

Back on topic, I put in the LED's in the door and then found ways to stuff clips/disguised guns into the door storage. Kinda loathe carrying a weapon in the console. Bad habit I guess.

Nice sig, too!

You are talking about the 2 bulbs on the rear lift gate? Yes I have replaced them. I used these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AIJY2ZM/?tag=ihco-20 They are 6000K color and you can get them at Autozone or other places. They are really bright. I have also used this same bulb in the interior and front driving lights to match my HIDs

No castle law... You can convince a court that you "feared for your life" but that is not a castle law...it's all case by case, in Canada (please note, I'm not a lawyer).

"Restricted" guns stored in your home are required to be locked; common sense for any firearm in my view.

@options2 Awesome thanks! By driving lights are you referring to the lights in the side markers?
