Would you just need 6 of the #74's to do everything but the gear indicator lights and the highbeam and turnsignal indicators?
Thanks.

I hope so 'cause I just ordered six thinking the exact same thing.

You guys will be fine with just the 6 #74's.

Also, remember these LEDs are polarity sensitive, if it doesn't light either turn the bulb around and re-seat, or the same thing with the bulb socket itself. I re-seated the bulbs because I just had to have the "Toshiba" all facing the same way.

My bulbs are in transit as we speak - however - just a update - I replaced my alternator tonight and wow - my dash is 10X brighter! My alternator was crapping out - can't wait to put the LEDs in.

Hmm... put mine in today but I've got hot-spots where the oil and voltage are but it's way dim towards the bottom. I still get illumination, but not of an even intensity by a long shot. Without pics, anyone have any thoughts?

Anthony - were your bulbs labeled 37 - 74? I think I have the same ones you do (6000k) but I'm wondering if the bulbs are different?

To cap it all off I got impatient towards the end and put a crack in the clear plastic gauge cover. Grrrr...

LOL! All of my switchplate and outlet covers in the house have their screwheads perfectly horizontal. OCD!

I think the problem lies in the bulbs you bought. Mine are the "3 SMT LED bulbs 37 74."
Looks like you bought the bulbs with 2 LEDs:

Refer back to my first post, last pic which shows 3 LEDs per bulb.

Was thinking the same thing... every time I get into a car, I have to make sure the smoke on the cigarette lighter is turned so that the smoke is going up. Definite OCD or is it OC/DC if you are listening to Back in Black?

Yep, same thing here with the cig lighter, 'cept it's only in my cars.

Oregon, ALL screwheads?! You got it bad brother...

Yup... thanks for the clarification. I couldn't tell the difference when ordering but it looks like I will place another order. If there's a good part to this it is that I can cut the time needed to do this in half and the bulbs are only $20 for the set. Could be worse...

To make the LED dimmer. If the bulb looks like post #25 above change out the resistor (black part with 201) for a higher value.

Mine arrived today. They went in tremendously easy. I was surprised at how easy it was to get them in. The only advice I have is to either do this install in the evening so you can make sure the LEDs are in correctly or do the job in your garage so you can see the results before you put everything back together. I put one LED in backwards, had to pull everything out and flip it. Looks great, even bright light all under $30 bucks.

Yes - I left the "D" light out. Thanks for the advice.

good to hear you turned up with good results Utah.

I went ahead and just replaced the "D" back with the old bulb for now, and maybe down the road change out the resistor on the LED as Skidoo said.

Purely out of curiosity and ignorance, what's the point of leaving any bulb in the "D" indicator socket? If each other indicator has a bulb and none of those other lights are lit, it should be quite obvious that the vehicle is in drive.

Is having the vehicle in drive something you easily forget while out on the road? Do you find yourself wondering which gear you're in (perhaps reverse!) at 65 mph, or do you enjoy bright lights staring back at you from your dash?

Being one of those people who makes the dash as dim as possible while still legible, please enlighten me on the thinking behind this decision.

Good point however, I guess you could say I'm rather pedantic. I don't like leaving any stones unturned or leaving holes unplugged, that were meant to be plugged.

Factory lights are definitely not bright, hence this upgrade. But to frolic further on your argument, why not take all the gear selector indicator bulbs out of the dash? Since they are provided right next to the gear selector.

Bottom line... I like knowing all my stuff works. Hope this answers your question.

Fascinating response though.

Yep, pretty much every room has been repainted by now which means every coverplate has come off and is now perfectly horizontal! Sad, I know.

How many people clean inside the vents? Off topic, I know.

In the LC or the house?

LC - I haven't seen the need

I have a special brush set for the dryer vent in the house. That kind of stuff seems a bit ridiculous but I like to have things running at peak efficiency.

Pls do not flame, but would green look good in the gage cluster instead of white? I wanted to match the center with the a/c knobs?

No neon green... Atleast your not doing cluster covers.

This picture got me scared, the blue and black base are both #74 bulbs? I hope I did not order wrong once again:bang:

Blue and black bases are #74 bulbs, so you're fine.

As far as green goes, I guess you won't know unless you try it out. Share pics if you do.

I agree with Anthony. Check out the green and see if you like it. You do not have anything to lose. If you don't like it, take it out and replace with white, blue, red, or some other color of choice.

As for the dash lens cover, it is one of the smoked plexiglass add-ons that make your lights useless.
