Sarge would appreciate this...
Our city recently put up 2-hour parking signs all over the place (I learned the hard way), and I took this shot about 30 minutes before sunset. With the LED lights on, notice the light reflection onto the signs well into the distance, as far as the eyes can see (Second pic is a zoom of the first one). I swear this is not Photoshop!

Another interesting sidebar: I noticed that after switching to LED headlights, my dash lights seem to have gotten a bit brighter. I bought these Magnum lights from CCOT a long while back. It's non-LED, and I always regretted putting these in because it's only a moderate improvement over the original lighting. That problem seems to be remediated now!

Re: the bezel. You could lessen the gap slightly by installing the rubber spacers that hold the bezel off the bib. They just slip over the bolts. Only about 1/8", but might help the looks slightly.
Would really like to know if these are legal in California... Some types are only legal if oem.

Every purple lamp out there is a non DOT approved light from the aftermarket - it's the enforcement that is the problem . I've talked to quite a few law enforcement agencies in this area - it's too easy for the offender to get out of a ticket , so they don't really enforce the regulations . It takes a high liability accident or lawsuit to generate any responsibility back to the owner of said lamps and the aftermarket is saturated with sellers that offer these things . Until policing agencies get a mandate from the DOT officials to get them off the road nothing will be done . I have nothing against more powerful lamps , the 55w standard to me is too low and it should be raised to 65w or so to keep up with Society's faster pace these days . If you look around , almost everyone that has stock fog lamps or driving lights on their vehicle uses them with the headlights - it's just easier and safer to see what's coming up ahead . Many car manufacturers are starting to use LED in their vehicles on the low beam side and all use a rear-projection setup instead of trying to control the light output from a front-facing led . I really wish DOT would drop the overhead/side sign projection requirement standard and adopt the Euro standards of cutoff , our light output under DOT regs is way too spread out to be efficient at lighting the actual road/ditches in our wide-open country .

Those pics are great , especially the twilight shot of those signs . It's tough to get a good perception shot from almost any digital camera - I've actually had great results using my Nokia phone (1020) with it's 41mb Carl Zeiss lens and some different settings away from default . What would make those led's look a lot better would be some tapered cone trim rings to hide that square edge that sticks out - I can't imagine changing the depth of the reflector housing would be beneficial to light output and focus , it's there for a reason .

What really gets me is how lackluster stock headlights are in most vehicles today - you'd think in this modern age they would be a lot better . There are some excellent ones and many OEM's are going the way of projectors which is about the most efficient means of controlling the pattern/output . When I'm out there working at night those are the least offensive to our eyes when I have to protect the crew working near the center of the lanes - and as I said before , sometimes pushing traffic over to the edge of the median . It's getting to be where night work is more of the norm - traffic volumes during the day are just too heavy and the resulting backups and accidents are too dangerous - night work traffic volume is a bit less at times , but almost the same now with the addition of the occasional drunk driver . Keeps us on our toes , to say the least .

I totally agree that new car lights on certain vehicles could be dramatically improved. I own one such vehicle. A 2012 Nissan Xterra Pro4-X. The HIGH beams are absolutely worthless! The low beams are not much better, but their light pattern at least lights the road enough to drive. I use the Fog Lights and low beams when driving at night just to be able to see. I tried the Silver Star replacement bulbs thinking they would work wonders like they did on my 2000 Xterra, but no, there was little improvement. It's the design if the light housing itself that is sub par.

Racer, the reason your dash lights appear to be brighter is because they really are! Due to the fact that LED headlights pull less current, there is less VOLTAGE drop in the lighting circuit. This means the other lights will now have voltage going to them that is closer to their 14.2 volt design.
This is also why the relay harness kits you can get for headlights make the lights brighter.

Those Silver Star bulbs are a scam - Sylvania settled a lawsuit for $30 million:

Sylvania taken to task for their false claims of headlamp superiority

From Daniel Stern an automotive lighting expert -

"Any of the "extra white" bulbs is a nonstarter as far as seeing better is concerned. It doesn't matter whose name is on the bulb. Sylvania SilverStar/Ultra, PIAA, Hoen,BlueVision, CrystalVision, TruView, Nokya, Polarg, etc. -- all the same scam. They have blue-tinted glass, which blocks some of the light that would reach the road if the glass weren't tinted, so they produce _less_ light than ordinary bulbs (not more), and in order to get legal-minimum levels of light through the blue glass the filament has to be driven very hard so these bulbs have a very short lifespan. And there's nothing about the tinted light that improves your ability to see -- the opposite is true, in fact. All it does is change the beam color slightly, to zero real benefit."

I'm convinced! Even though I don't drive my 40 at night very much, the extra light for my older eyes will be welcomed. I wonder if AutoMeter makes LEDs for their gauges?

I never got a notice from them and I purchased two sets! :D

They ARE a brighter bulb. It's one of the reasons they only last 50 hours. They also charred my headlight connectors. I'm NOT defending Sylvania or any blue bulb maker, just stating they made a difference on my 2000 Xterra. They lasted less than a year before fading to the point of being worse than the old worn OEM bulbs. (I commute 42 miles one way at 6:00 AM) I finally just replaced them with OEM bulbs when I got my Altima for use as the work vehicle. What I need for my 2012 X is a set of LED housings that don't cost $599.95...

I'm convinced too, and Racer is out of stock. It's almost always like that for me.

I'd like to order a pair, please advise.

I'm in how do I pay?
