Leather seats: Heritage Edition VS standard

We traded in a perfectly fine 2017 base model (30K miles - Brandywine Mica exterior, black interior) for a 2020 HE (Blizzard Pearl exterior, black interior - no choice). We have no regrets.

Concerning terra interiors: I was indifferent, but the wife vetoed terra. She simply didn't like the way Toyota employed black parts (seat backs, some door panel parts) with the Terra. I wonder if her opinion was formed by our older LX that had a light interior but seat backs matched in color, etc.

The HE wheels are BBS forged and lighter than the base model wheels (in the same ballpark as the Rock Warriors). I am no longer a serious off-road type so the advantage of 17" Rock Warriors over 18" HE wheels is lost on me. Your use might sway you differently. The cleaner rear interior (if the base model seats are removed) and the lack of the cool box were both attractions to us. The HE has a cargo curtain that we never use that's not available on the base model (mall crawler - hide the packages thing?). The cool box was something we only used maybe twice. Anytime we were carrying anything we wanted to keep cool, we ended up with a small cooler anyway (drinks before and after trail, sandwiches, etc.) Maybe ours wasn't insulated correctly, but the base model cool box we had would not keep things cold long enough to have cool drinks or food there after a couple hour hike.
Thanks for your input, it’s extremely helpful. We would do the white HE as well, I think the black looks the best when brand spanking new but there’s no way I’d be able to live with it after a few trips through some brush, I’d have to do a matte wrap or a ton of clear bra and that’s just cash I’d rather put towards other upgrades.

One comment on cool box, I use it all the time but it doesn’t replace a cooler. It keeps waters cool while on a long drive, grab a drink while driving versus stop to access a cooler. But it won’t keep things cool when motor is off, and it will heat up in a hurry. Plan on a cooler for any time you leave the vehicle for long.

Our daily driver is a 2018 Navigator and we want the LC to be our dedicated off roader/tow vehicle for our overland trailer. Our dislike for black interior is more for aesthetic reasons than anything else, a dark cabin is just small feeling and we prefer the openness of a lighter color interior.

The base model with black seats has a gray headliner, which makes it feel more open. The base model with terra seats has a black headliner. The Heritage has both black seats and a black headliner, for what its worth.

Pro tip: a few water bottles in the coolbox will help dramatically at keeping other things in there cool when the vehicle is off.

This is very informative as it’s tough to distinguish any difference at all on the Toyota build and price website.

Thanks!

It’s cooled by the same air as the regular car AC, correct? At best that blows at 50ish degrees if I had to guess.

Matter of personal preference but my wife absolutely hated the terra interior and I thought I might like it, but I also did not care for it once I saw it in person.
These vehicles last a long time, meaning one would spend a long time with the interior, so better not get something which might bother you in the long run.

No it uses a different system that rejects heat to the regular AC system. It keeps the coolbox at refrigerator temps.

I have a new HE and its my 2nd LC. The 2011 seats had 105k on them when I bought that one. I've had leather seats from Volvos, Chevys, Jeeps, and maybe a couple more I cant remember. These 2020 HE seats are BY FAR the softest Ive ever felt. But Im also only 1k miles into it....so I cant speak to durability and my bias is strong. We wanted a terra interior but obviously that wasn't an option for the HE. I still have zero regrets.

The coolbox uses a separate circuit of the refrigerant system. In total there are three evap coils, the dash, coolbox, and rear AC. Stuff a little coil in there and run a small fan across it: near freezing temps. It works well, and has some insulation, but if all you put in there are sandwiches it doesn’t take much thermal energy making it through the walls to warm them back up when off. Water is a different story.

You touch on something important, we do plan on keeping this vehicle for as long as it will run and using it to travel all over North and possibly some of South America well. Black would probably be benign enough to go long term with.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I’ve never had something like this in any vehicle so it is difficult for me to imagine how best to use it. We exclusively drink from the camelbak bottles with the straws (we’ve regressed to childhood since having kids, we all use them since they are spillproof), I think they may fit in there. My current center console is rather large and functional, it can accommodate a DSLR and still have room for extra G17 mags, glasses, headlamps and other handy quick access items. I’m not opposed to the cool box, I just don’t quite understand the cool box.

From what I understand the new HE seat leather is similar to the pre-2016 leather. Having had both the new HE and a pre-2016 LC would you agree with that? As silly as getting hung up on seats may be, the amount of seat time it takes crossing the country bumps them up in the priority list... especially as I have gotten a little older. Our current Navigator seats are, simply put, amazing. I don’t expect to achieve their level of comfort but I do appreciate supple, comfortable supporting seats.

One item to note: there is no adjustable lumbar support on the passenger seat in any Land Cruiser. The front seats are comfortable but I have minor back issues and a lumbar control is important for me. It keeps me in the driver’s seat where the lumbar adjustment is available. I believe both front seats have lumbar and more adjustments in the Lexus version. If you will be traveling long distances make sure you get a feel for seat comfort in both front seats.

Well, this just complicated things... I, too, have lower back aggravations. So the seats adjust in the standard up, down, forward, back, and seat back forward and back? Pretty standard rudimentary seat adjustments?

It’s too bad the US market doesn’t have access to some of the other market interior choices.

I kind of "made" a Heritage edition out of a base (you can see the grey pillars and headliner in some of the pics)
