LCXC 2018: Baja!

Mark they are good for for many uses. I typically load firewood in mine on the outward bound leg of a trip. It's going to get dusty and grimy due to it's mounting location so color isn't as Gucci as one expects. Personally I'd order direct and not feed the Amazon monster.
 
Down to 46 days? Very stoked

Finally placed the on-board shower order and some other stuff. Really hope I have time to get the lockers and gears installed but it isn't looking great. Oh well...

Still need to get my HAM license too...

Looking at showers...wishing for gears/lockers but doubtful for the time-frame...Need HAM license!

I don't think the US license is recognized in Mexico and the process to get a temporary permit through the right channels is pretty tedious. I'll likely attempt the temp permit but mainly out of curiosity... I'm not expecting it to work. Not to dissuade you as it's totally worth getting the license.

Ah that's right, I forgot you mentioned that before. I'll dig out my cheapo handhelds for the trip then.

Nice. What I posted is what I ordered. I switch the fitting types if I had to 9lorder again but we'll see how it works.

I can program my units to work on the family band...but still hoping to study and take a test in the next several weeks.
 
I'm bagging on the HAM test for now, too much going on before this trip to make it happen and now less motivated knowing it's technically no good down there anyway. "FRS" it is. Got my renewed passport in the mail, had paid for the extra card but that didn't come. Maybe I needed to send in both passport photos instead of just one (thanks USPO lady).

I have a cb and I just picked up a cheap hand held, no FSR though. I'm sure we'll figure it all out.

HEY don't sweat "technically" yeah you need 2 pics. The card comes in a subsequent send anyway FYI. When I sent in my BC and app the actual PP came back by it's self then a couple days later the BC came THEN the card came in a third send. Yea lets keep the postal workers busy? When I asked about this I was told they all come from separate places, yea Gov't?

Man that's nuts... How long did it take from passing the test to receiving everything?

I have never operated outside of the U.S. so I looked up whether or not we have a reciprocal on the ARRL website. Here’s the information that they had:

Mexico (XE)
There have been significant changes in Mexico’s telecommunications structure. CoFeTel has been replaced by a new telecommunications agency - IFT. At this time there are no procedures in place for US licensees (or those from other nations) to obtain a valid license in Mexico or to operate under a reciprocal agreement.

In theory, you can take the test again if you fail it on the same day. However, you need to pay the license fee again. Once you pass the test, it takes approximately 9-15 business days for the information to be recorded on the FCC ULS website. Based on the above information, you wouldn’t be able to operate a radio in Mexico because there are no agreements in place with the U.S.
I myself would be hesitant to enter Mexico with the radio control head visible as I’m not sure how the Mexican Border officials would act. Hope this helps.

I'm going to try and roll into SD on the evening of the 23rd and snag a hotel.

Any word on if Ken is still in? I can't find my LCDC sheet with his number.
