Ive spotted a truck using turn assist on those switchbacks. It had me on edge because of having to use crawl control. It worked fine, but I prefer the 3pt turn method.

Yep. Nothing wrong with 3 point turns. I did not mean to imply the turns are too tight or that they are a bad idea. Not at all.
** Only mentioning that a nervous driver can inadvertently end up in a weird spot if they cut the corner in a couple tight turns...because you can end up with your front bumper in the dirt, and no traction with front/steering wheels to continue the turn. Little unexpected mistakes sometimes happen in the effort of safety because they’re a little counterintuitive.

***Black Bear really isn’t bad at all.
Just gotta pay attention and avoid distraction. And if you aren’t sure, get out and look, or ask for a spotter.

I've only seen videos of black bear pass, but I have personally seen/used turn assist and it makes a hell of a difference in your turning circle.

The comment was meant light-hearted. But if you have run those switch backs and tried it with turn assist, please share the experience?
I’ve used turn assist. It gives you about 1’ smaller radius. So helpful, but not huge.

I have not run Black Bear pass. There are a ton of videos of it on YouTube. Some of those switchbacks require lots of back and forth in 2dr Wranglers, which have about a 4’ smaller turning circle than the 200.

The other issue with using turn assist is that you have to be using crawl control. On the Black Bear switchbacks, if you go over the edge of the switchback you are probably going to die. I suspect that a lot of people would be hesitant to trust crawl control in that situation and would instead prefer to have their foot on the brake and let the truck creep forward instead.

Covered some 570 miles today, unplanned. Just west on 70, 68. Awesome wake up to no power in the ACC ports front or rear when i went to leave Maryland. Hopped on here, found a quick search to fuse 26. Blown. After a quick trip to advance auto i was on the road. Indianapolis for the night.

Just about finished packing. Headed out of Champaign, IL in the morning. Will stop in Lincoln, Nebraska for the night and then on to FC.

Might see you on the road. I will be heading out from just west of you in the morning.

You've got turn assist to make those tight switch backs not be a problem for a 200.

I doubt it, the switchbacks are too tight.

Those switchbacks are tight and some require a careful 3 point turn. You want to rely on control and not leave it up to a function of the vehicle. Once you get down a bit you can use the turn assist in places were there isnt a shear drop and see how it works

Also, after you do the summit of Black Bear, and go around where you can start to see Telluride, there is a place you can tip if you are not paying attention. I saw an FJ do it, but they could have gone right or turned into where it start to go down a couple of feet. It isnt hard, just dont want to be moving fast and use common sense. That applies to the hole trail. It really isnt hard, just don't get distracted

Agree with Romer on all points here. Black Bear isn't bad, you just need to pay attention and stay focused from the time you see Telluride until you're in Telluride. The toughest part is usually dealing with the traffic and people who pick bad parking spots at the very end as you're coming into town. The big points to use more caution is the dip up top that Romer is talking about above; as long as you don't turn into the deepest part of that drop or slam on your brakes when you feel the front end start to go down you should be fine. There's a blind turn just as you start descending into Telluride that it's helpful to have a spotter as you're making a hard right along a rock ledge with a dropoff in front of you. Last there are the switchbacks and as everyone else mentioned if you plan on doing a 3 or 5 (or however many you need) point turn you will be fine. Went down with a quad cab, long bed Tacoma a couple of years ago and they made it without a problem, just some extra turns.

If anyone needs any advice on things to do around Fort Collins, especially beer or food related, I'm happy to help. I lived there for a few years and am happy to give suggestions.

Also, if anyone coming from the eastern part of the US would like to pickup a case of Yuengling for me I'd be happy to pay you for your trouble or trade you some tasty CO brews.

If I had seen it earlier I would have grabbed it. Glad someone was able to!
Mission failed. Got stop by a very nice old lady. I should have her snap a pic of me holding a case of beer.

Leaving Indy on 70 for west kansas in the a.m.

I'm just ahead of you. I had to work Friday night till 730am Saturday, then we left lafayette, IN at 10am. Stopped in Kansas City for BBQ dinner at Q39 (very good!) and made it as far as Salina, Kansas before I was totally spent. That was a long day. Getting back on the road in a few minutes after a very needed good sleep. Headed to Colorado Springs today for Garden of the Gods.

BTW, whoever wanted the yuengling, that post was a day late for me to grab you any also.....sorry.

Great idea about bootlegging beer! I’d take a boatload twelve’r of Spotted Cow or anything, really, from New Glarus, if anyone’s coming from Wisconsin?

<<highjack over>>

All packed and heading West. Sounds like most are going thru KC. I am going thru NE so don't know if I will see anyone on the road.

I’ve been silence as my plan in limbo. While driving last week, my snorkel head got lost. I’m waiting for a replacement part to arrive this week (begging fedex or USPS guy).

Then, I will head out solo toward Colorado spring CO prior arriving to Ft collin on wed night. Plan to be a tourist, overland inside the vehicle for days and maybe hit a few trails. Just want to make sure the rig is ready. If my plan work out, I will be doing Webster pass, possible red cone. If anyone interest to join, let reach out. @RobW0 @m200
Just FYI, this is the top of Webster last week, snowed in on the Handcart Gulch side of the pass. It was still worth the trip as that is such an amazing little valley and we got to see a massive bull moose.
