That’s correct.... but only to the guy driving the 300 to the event!

Chocolate milk is on me...
-any series! :hillbilly::clap::grinpimp:<hehe

PS. Quite a few law enforcement officers know I always have chocolate milk available in my fridge. Sheriff Deputies, SDPD, & especially Border Partrol take them with a big smile, especially when it’s hot. Not kidding...chocolate milk diplomacy works! :)

Didn't see anything with a search, so... Has anyone in the past done the trails with a LX 570 (2013) and its 2" lift, with Rock Warriors/KO2s?

Removing the running board is a bit more involved and still have the hydraulic lines exposed, but somewhat protected with their roll cage.

Thoughts?

With your 2” lift you should be fine even if you leave running boards on.
If you were stock, they are vulnerable on some trails. Most trails have nothing threatening unless you decide to take obstacles.

A few years ago we had a driver with a fully stock LC...running boards...on street tires. He did bend his running boards—but that’s with zero lift, etc.

Here’s a thought... -Schedule now at Slee and see if they can install sliders before the event. ;)

We took our bone stock (only upgrade is 275/65/20 KO2s) 08 LX on Ophir with zero concerns, and I would have no problem taking it on Imogene or Black Bear Pass. As long as your aware of where you're putting your tires and listening to a spotter where appropriate, I don't think you'd have any issues. Sliders are definitely a nice insurance policy, so if you can get them put on ahead of the event it would give peace of mind since rocker damage is very expensive to fix.

Don't sell my ride, brah!

@txtortoise if Matt is foolish enough to let me drive his LX, you're fine. I'd echo everything Matt said with the caveat neither of us has been on every trail in the area. Using Black Bear as an example, I think you'd find yourself much more likely to scrape/dent rear bumper than dent up a running board. Just need to pay attention.

I am another East Coaster that is planning on making the trek to LCDC this year and cant wait.

The information on the comms says “Suitable Trail Communications (2m Ham Radio, CB, or 2-Way Radio)

Is there a preferred or dominate radio to get to communicate with the groups? I am debating getting one of the radios hardwired.

CB sucks. Not everyone has ham, but they seemed to work much better than FRS.

This little handheld HAM unit (see link below) will allow you to hear far more clearly/reliably. CB is nearly dead as a solution, and those relying on it are notoriously frustrated.

To be sure you’re hearing everyone in all groups, a combination of HAM and a family radio unit like Motorola, etc. will mean you have a good radio experience.

I have two of these:
BaoFeng BF-F8HP (UV-5R 3rd Gen) 8-Watt Dual Band Two-Way Radio (136-174Mhz VHF & 400-520Mhz UHF) Includes Full Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MAULSOK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kw5pCbWMR9PTX

While the lithium battery easily lasts all day...I would recommend adding a AA battery option since the charge cradles are awkward to use on the trail should you hit a low battery, or forget to fully charge at night:

BTECH, BaoFeng BL-5 AA Battery Pack for for BF-F8HP, UV-5X3, and UV-5R Radios https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LAPTWE4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aB5pCbXQ87HZY

Another nice backup is this 12V no-battery option:
BTECH, BaoFeng BL-5 Battery Eliminator for for BF-F8HP, UV-5X3, and UV-5R Radios https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KZ6VGUW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gD5pCbW0E0JXT

Even if you grab all three, it’s less than $100.
This is a common choose, too, meaning one of us will be able to easily help you set it up if there is confusion.

I got a bao feng (ham) from amazon haven’t had a chance to take a ham class yet but they’re cheap I think I got mine for 60 bucks

PS:
In addition to HAM in my post up there...

-FRS radios are abundant and cheap, but it’s getting harder to find reliable units.

This set (see link) has been excellent...and uses 4 AA batteries rather than many others that use AAA, so they last a good long time with great performance. They also include battery packs and chargers, but the ability to swap in AAs is great:

I would buy these again if something happened to mine:

Midland - GXT1000VP4, 50 Channel GMRS Two-Way Radio - Up to 36 Mile Range Walkie Talkie, 142 Privacy Codes, Waterproof, NOAA Weather Scan + Alert (Pair Pack) (Black/Silver) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001WMFYH4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BL5pCbTTQ6GJR

We have officially reached capacity at 60. We do have a waiting list started and as spots open we’ll take people from the wait list to confirmed list.

Wow!
Wonder if there is a simple way (link) that might enable cancelations...perhaps a flag on page one(?)...so that we don’t end up excluding folks due to someone forgetting to cancel?

Just thinkin... :meh:...

Wow! That was fast.

Folks, if you do have to bail, please be sure to let the organizers know ASAP.

Eventbrite has some systems in place for this so expect periodic reminders to update your registration to capture changes.

Markuson - thanks for the quick reply! I just ordered them both and the accessories. Do you find that you need a external antennae as well or does it work OK as just a handheld unit?

The handheld HAM does extremely well.

At the event, I can help you go into settings where you can crank the broadcast signal up to 8W if necessary. That is a strong transmit signal for a handheld.

I have not used an external but it definitely would help...especially if receiving from trucks far behind you, since the signal reception is dependent upon the transmission signal strength of others.

now you have me worried that my registration didnt go through. There isnt a list to double check like last year

If you successfully registered, I think you should be able to log in to eventbrite and see your reg. Also...you should have received an email confirmation. Check your inbox or search your email using “Eventbrite.”

Aside from the Method wheels and A/T tires I'll be stock. Running boards will be removed, hoping sliders installed. Communication, HAM or 2 way is next. Just something simple. Coming from MD, anyone have advantages of i70 over i80.
