Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but did you guys ever start selling just the unlockable hubs? Still interested in a pair without the full standalone kit.

Yes, we do offer them loose, part# HUBFHT001IFS. This is a proprietary part we offer using some custom spacers, gears and hardware all built on the venerable AISIN hub. They are not on our CruiserTeq site individually (only as part of the complete part-time conversion kit) but we can sell them individually, give us a call 801-563-1277

They do. But you'll have to also cut signal to your VSC control—without the wheel speed signal, the truck won't drive more than 5 or 10 mph. There's a thread on doing just that, maybe you already have.

Aisin Locking Hubs at Cruiserteq

To clarify, this is NOT true for the 100 Series or LX470. They get their speed signal from the wheel bearing hub, not the birf like the 8x Series. No additional modifications or loss of functionality. And for those with 8x Series considering the part-time conversion, we stock an ABS tone ring kit that converts the speed signal from the birf to the wheel hub, so your ABS will function as planned there too.

Update from a far, I hope I didn't miss any questions as I caught up on this thread. I believe we are 100% caught up on these kits and new orders are shipping the same day as ordered. We eliminated one major hang up by getting a die made for the custom gasket in the hub, so we have plenty of those now.

You can call and order or order on-line 24/7 at our CruiserTeq ecommerce site here:

Question for a 100 newbie. Would having a spool and lockouts allow for 2wd low or does the cdl engage automatically in low.

Follow up question (and I have not searched yet) is there a cdl mod to allow full control high and low via the switch if the first answer is yes it automatically engages in low.

Yes, it can be modified to allow 2L if desired.

When you install locking hubs only.....(hubs unlocked):

  • The hub/rotor and wheel are 'free wheeling' (not being driven)
  • The rest of the drive-train (from the hubs back) are still rotating (receiving power)
  • Transfer case is still providing power to front driveshaft
  • Front driveshaft still powering the front differential
  • Front differential still providing power and turning you CV driveshafts

Is that 1/2 way? It could be argued yes if you consider the other 'half' doing the T-case mod.

I will simply leave you with what has been accomplished so far.

There are other torque bias concerns depending on whether the center diff is locked or not....so consider those.

It was a bit of a rhetorical question posted in jest. :hillbilly:

But I guess to reply to your more serious reply to my post: I have a solid understanding of part-time vs full-time 4WD vs AWD (on this vehicle and other LCs, as well as other vehicles). I understand the implications of having only swapped out the drive-flanges for the locking hubs on this vehicle. I have the complete kit from @cruiseroutfit with the spool for the t-case and have found only the time to put the Aisins on so far and wanted to show them off. :) So--not to fret--I'll be doing the t-case, as well, soon enough. 😎

In that case.....I'd say you are 'Half Way There' 👍

And I will readjust my 'jest' meter.

Just ordered my kit!

It seems the jury is still out on the MPG savings; I've got about 4 years of data on my cruiser.. should be pretty easy to see if I see any improvement.

Do keep us posted 😎

I have a Marks4wd kit that is not installed on my '98 TLC. I am debating giving Slee a call to see if they want to tackle this for me.

But I am having a hard time understanding the nuances between 4wd and AWD, can someone lead me to that discussion or provide an explanation for me? I upgraded from a FJ62 to a 100 series recently and I enjoyed the manual locking hubs of the FJ62 and having the ability to run 2wd/RWD for "perceived" more oomph.

My '98 100 series has Front/Rear ARB Air Lockers and has been regeared to 4.88 and had the front CV Axles recently replaced.

Thanks!

After converting to traditional 2WD/4WD (regardless if you're using our kit discussed in this thread or the Marks kit), your 100 will function just like the FJ62. In 2WD, hubs unlocked. Only the rear driveline is engaged. Front driveline, diff, CV axles and wheels are not powered. When you engage the CDL, everything on the front end is engaged. Lock the hubs and you're 4WD.

Boom. Anyone who follows TG instructions, make sure you remove the small cover and the outer c clip. Had me wondering for a few minutes. Everything went smooth and been running part time for about a week now!
