Put me down for one of the sites at the group area. Or how do we do it? What is protocol here?
Can't wait can't wait can't wait....

Probably wait until after Over the Mountain Tour before we start roll call. we get closer. We have 60 spots. I'm sure there will be room for everyone. Cost will be around 2-5 per person for camping. We won't be able to figure out food cost until we get closer. But I think somewhere around $10-15 a night would be safe. I have been wrong before.

Maarshal, what else would you like us to do from down here. (Food, etc???)

Couple things I'd like to know.

Where could we get some good oysters to roast that are reasonable. Shrimp? A rough cost per bushell or pound.

Any good places to throw out crab pots and shrimp nearby.

A local charter to go inland fishing.

If we can get those answered I think we will be a long way in making this a good event.

Shrimp, and oysters, we can get right off the boat, cheapest price in town (and freshest).

Crab pots and shrimp nets we can throw right the dock at Hunting Island . You have to drive from the campground, but it's not far.

We'll have to check on the fishing charters. I know of some around here, but not there.
However, you can also fish off the dock or in the surf.

Also, for $2.00, you can go up in the lighthouse. well worth it.Last time I was there, we had a small tropical system off the coast and the wind a the top was 45-50 mph. you could feel the whole thing sway.
Way cool!!!

Gay Fish Company is right down the street they have a bunch of boats. As we get closer to the date I'll start calling them and getting a good idea of what to expect coming off the boat and when. Didn't know this but they used them for some of the scenes in Forrest Gump and they are the original inventors of Frogmore Stew.

I've got two crab pots I'll bring. I'll also go ahead a renew my shrimping license and get my bait poles ready. Looks like some really good places to fish right around the boat landing.

I've been doing some more research on the camping spot. It does have water and bathrooms. There is a short walk to the spots though so no camping in vehicles. I've got a call into the ranger to give me a better idea of where we are exactly but from what I can tell from the lady at the park office is we are really close to the lagon.

your first link, bay street outfitters is a little pricey. High Class.. :grinpimp:

There are a few other bait shops and Wal-Mart. Gay fish company is closest to the camp site, but about a mile down the road there are a few more fish shops. They are all good. I'm not sure how good the shrimping would be in Oct. they just started shrimping here in the last few weeks. In a few months there will only be teeny tiny shrimp left, all the big ones will be eaten by then. Oysters shouldn't be a problem.

best shrimping is in Sept.....used to do it every year off our dock with bait...just have to have a license if you bait...but we would catch gobs of big brown shrimp behind our house on the intercoastal

i hate cracking crabs but can sling a cast net with the best of them :D :D

well, there you go.

Shrimp season: Starting in May large white roe shrimp are available. This is can be a very short season(1-3 weeks). Around the middle of June the smaller but delicious brown shrimp begin. These shrimp grow in size as the summer progresses. Toward the middle of August, the brownies start to disappear. From the end of August to the 1st of September the white shrimp start to appear in the small to medium size and continue to grow throughout the fall. Shrimp season can end anytime from the middle of December or the 1st. part of January.

I love the brown but I'm way to lazy to spend all day casting a net to fill up a cooler. So much easier with bait. When it's good you can fill the cooler up in a couple hrs.

we had it to a science on our docks...me and brother in law would cast on rising tide in evening over bait balls we put out in specific areas around dock and floater......wives would have 1qt containers at sink up on main dock head...we would catch and sort...they would grab buckets when getting full and head and then back in containers...top off with water...seal...and haul to freezer in red wagon. MMMmmmmmmm

Hey guys I want y'all to start thinking about doing a t-shirt for the event. Might want to start a thread and start concepting. If you want to change the name of the event that is fine with me. If you get something good do by say mid to late August we will set it up in the registration page. This way we can start generating some funds for you LC guys. Registration page should be done in a couple weeks once I finalize all the details.

Are we responsible for the artwok, or do we have someone in the club that can draw graphics? I thought about a cartoonish FJ40 with a shrimp driving it on some dunes. Don't know who would be capable of drawing it though.

I don't know either but I like the concept. We have a few graphic designers but I have yet to find an artist. I can draw a mean 40 on my daughter etch a sketch though.

I'll try something but it would be nice if someone would step up to the plate and take this on. We have a couple of good printers who could do t-shirts.

my brother owns one of the largest silk screen and embroidery companies in region and does work for a large number of resorts, cruise lines, Dole Plantation, Parker Pens, etc....plus has done all my shirts for military and motorcycles over the years. he is not cheapest but is definitely the best in quality of shirts and quality of workmanship...I have shirts that are going on 10 years old that are still bright and vivid. Even if someone does artwork it has to be converted to where it can be separated for silk screens to be setup for each color.....

if someone has some art ideas i can put them in touch with him or his sales staff to work through it if they choose him...that way i am out of loop in case there are questions of my involvement. As example I recently gave some art ideas to his artist....had him refine it and work it so it looked nice and not from a first grader.....artwork cost, setup fees, tshirts with 5-6 colors on artwork with main image on rear and smaller item on left chest area for 156 shirts had me selling shirts for $15 each to make a little extra for our club. It all revolves around what you want and the quality you want....
Let me know if I can help...

My wife is an Art Teacher. I'll put the idea to her!

We just got back from vacation in Beaufort. Went to Hunting Is and climbed the lighthouse. The whole area is beautiful! Can't wait for this trip!

Marshal...Maybe we (you) should start a new thread for this event with the current information. I was getting a bit confused reading through all the posts. You could link to this as the "Planning" thread.
