WOW!!!!! Talk about a trip down memory lane!!!! Just set the one of the 55 towing it as my desktop background. Is 'landpimp' the Dave from Anacortes who I sold it to, or is he the guy Dave sold it to a year later? It was amazing to see what became of the truck. To me, this is where the internet really shines. My trucks certainly never do....

The pic of the 55 pulling the 45 is teh awesome!!!!!

Seriously, best picture on the internets ever.

Amazing that the truck can still be found (and I'd be honored if pimp ever purchased one of my former vehicles--the man's got taste is all)

So yesterday right after work, I pulled the bed off and started cleaning the frame. Then last night I got out the torch and loosened all the bolts holding the fenders and bib, then put them back finger tight. I also did the same thing to the front axle, as I will be using the disc front end from the donor. I am just not ready to have my new truck reduced to a pile of parts just yet, so tomorrow I will start parting out the '76.I will need the pto drive gear for the 4 sp and I am unsure what kind of booster and master to use for the brakes. And what adapter is best? I have the master cyl from the 76 donor. From what I've read, this may interfere with the carb on the 2f. As far as the sequence, it seems I want to bolt the disc front end in first, then the engine/tranny, then the new master cyl last, because of clearance issues.

You are going to have to extend the booster past the rib

I never got around to parting the '76 yet. I went out and got all interested in brakes. Just had to inspect the original brakes and axles before i just discarded them. I know discs are better, but Ive driven drum brake vehicles for many many years of trouble free service. I can see that I cannot use the master cyl/booster from the 40, as it will interfere with the 2 bbl carb when spaced off the firewall. I guess this is why I hear so much about mini truck and other masters. Doing a search has been very confusing to me, yet I have spent hours trying to figure this out... Hmmmm I do love that little stock master cyl. The truck will be a 'sunday driver', almostly always on the island. No stoplights, traffic or speed limits over 45. No wheeling except dirt roads and just goofing off in the woods. So, I'm sorta talking myself out of the discs(for now), and will look into new wheel cyls and shoes. Heck, someday it will be cool because it is so original. Also, I'm no stranger to the landcruiser drums, and their adjustment x 8, (sheesh.) Heck, all through the 90's I drove a 38 ford one ton pickup as my dd. Bone stock did 70 mph and I never changed out the mechanical brakes to hydraulics... so i'm thinking drums

I met Dave when he had some free early hub caps he sent me, we started talking about 45's, I was looking for one and had been having no luck, Dave showed me a pic of his(yours) and I told him if he ever wanted to sell it to let me know. I dunno 6 months or so latter Dave emails me and says he will sell it, next morning me and my buddy headed up to pic it up.

the day I got the 45 was the day Connie and I started to date, so it marks are aniversary(6-7 years now)

still has the 1 barrel on it, but new trany(3 speed) disc front end, OME, SR, rear ARB locker, fj60 dizzy, brake booster and stuff and thats about it, i rattle canned the body the same faded blue again a few years ago. Rebuilt 3 set of doors into I set, kept the orignalys in the shop. had 35's but went to 33x9.5 again a few years ago.

1 week after I got it, it was in the local Maritime Parade, 1st gear was gone so I used low range to tow the Gig.

the tailgate is the worse of the truck.....I just leave it up now ;)

we will have to PM as I am a bit confused about the history before you had it. I thought the guy in the pic was the orignaly owner in NAPA.....but I guess not.

and does this bring back any memories? :D

Memories? Oh yeah... Ok, so that IS a picture of Bill Yarlott, the original owner. He moved to the island right after he bought it, so it spent it's life here. And tailgates? Mine is pretty bad too. Some po installed a couple of 'tuna can' lights under the tailgate and musta found out afterwards that the tailgate wont go down all the way, so he torches out 2 notches in the lower formed section. Middle hinge is gone and it was a weak design from the start, from what I've seen. Sure, lets pm and maybe we can email, as I understand that format, and we can send photos. I have 10 acres here with lots of 'jeep trails' ( ok, I have a beatup '46 cj2a, olive drab)... and we are surrounded by dirt roads and logging roads on the side of Mt. Pickett. Big bonfire pit and lots of campsites. I smell a NW 45 run for the 'off season'.:bounce:

love those pics :)

just last summer i put the spare in the same spot behind the bed......at the time I dont know why I did.....but the 45 must had been talking to me.....as its in the same spot you had it.

I also left the 6000 Gross stickers(had to...it fit)

and tracked down a headache rack

and it all makes sense now.....the pic with the 45 never did look like Napa nor did the one of the Bill..he looked way to WA to me :)

speaker was removed but I replace it with a pair of marine speaker up under the dash and a center console for the CD player

the chicken crap is a riot! :) there is a 45LV around here used as a pig feeder! :(

I showed this post to Connie and she thinks its great !

I still have the 16" split rims, the are under my 65 fj40(its dead)

Thanks again, spotcruiser. It took me about 12 years to talk the original owner outa this truck... It had been sitting alongside his trailer with the head off, and an exhaust valve driven into a piston. The kids took piano lessons from his wife, so I had many opportunities to see it and lust after it. They raised chickens and pigs and the bed was about 3" deep in composting crud and the tailgate was also covered with it and left open.:crybaby: In the Pacific NW, this was almost always wet. I remember wanting to offer to shovel it out and clean the bed, just in case he ever agreed to sell it to me. It was just painful to watch. I got it before any perforation, but some of the pits were very deep. One day out of the blue, Bill called me and asked if iI still wanted it, and he said 750.00 which included the good f engine he had stored in the shed.I made the 20 minute trip in 15 minutes with my fj 55 and my towbar. I think I mentioned before that The event was immortalized in the specter cataloge during the 90's. I dont have the photo anymore or a catalogue, but I think it was on page 162. It was a memorable day. Last Friday morning was almost as good, but the total cost was a bit more..... oh, and I accidently bought a pressure washer today while I was on the mainland. Time to get after that frame.

1st time i had ever seen a 45 was on Salt Spring Is back in the late 70's, we went up to Desolation Sound every year, that year the other boat we were with had ploblems so we layed up at Salt Spring. A local loaned us a 45 to go to chase down parts with, dad, his buddy and me in the cab.....remember dads buddy opened the glove box and a large bag of herb type stuff came out.....I had no clue at the time ;)

this was back when Canada had a beer problem and they guys on the Is were making runs to the US for beer.....remember some Whaler loaded higher than you can imagine with beer

been many many years sense I have been to Orcas Is, but know 2 gals that live there in Yurts ;)

I have a '66, 17' Boston Whaler that's been in the islands since new. Just got all the plans from BW and built new mahogany pilots bench and windshield to factory specs. Been a woodworker and boatbuilder all my life. The ex lives in a yurt.... mtpickettwoodworking.com that's me and my company. oh, and a '66 bsa 441 victor special, and a..... guess we move this to pm/email, huh?

A bit of an update... I was gonna just 'freshen it up a bit' and drop an engine in it. Yeah right. So, Ive been spending money like a drunken sailor, and I'm not even a sailor. I'm ready to do the engine swap this weekend, and spotcruiser has offered to lend me a hand and some tech support as we'll need to split the tranny and xfer to install a pto drive gear. This is by no means a professional restoration, but all the rust was addressed and it's pretty good now. Used sor replacement fenders, the aprons and running boards from my '76 donor. Brakes still drums on all corners, but everything new. Lots of work on the pto winch, as well. I wrestled with the paint color and horizontal blue (still think it was supposed to be horizon blue, but it was lost in translation)won out, because i love it, and it was the original color. I made my own batch from rustoleum. Some gloss, some flat. It's a good match and looks like oxidized paint. It certainly hides my :beer:bodywork better than a high gloss job....The bed is just setting on 4 studs, and I'll work on it outside if the weather ever improves. Where's that global warming they've been predicting anyhow? I am really enjoying this project, and specially now that I am putting parts back together, I can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Thats fantastic !!!!! makes me want to get out there and start sanding and painting on mine ? Hope to see you at the 45 run.

Hoping to make that 45 run. The 2f should be in there by Saturday afternoon. Spotcruiser decided to come a day earlier because of the arrival of great weather. He must have left about 6am in his open fj40 and with 2 ferries from where he lives and quite a few miles, he gets here about 2:30. Gonna run down and get as much as I can ready before he arrives. **** work today, the employees can cover for me.... or not. I'll get pictures.
ps Did you guys see the post in the tech section about the '78 fj 45 on Wa. Craigslist? 36,000 miles and a fairey overdrive.....

Progress report... My son and I put a few more illegal miles on it yesterday. Maybe install windshield today, and do some welding on the hood. Before MUD, I didn't know anyone who gave a **** about 45s. You guys have really made this an enjoyable experience. Well maybe not the part where one of my employees was looking for a bolt and totally mixed the coffee can of SAE nuts & bolts with the coffee can of metrics. Made for a lot of frustration assembling the bib, fenders and running boards....... My 14 year old son has really dug into this project with me. He probably thinks he's gonna get to drive it to school someday. ;)
