new gen II

So what exactly is the "new gen II" design, is it just the bore size? do you have pictures?
Thanks,
E

Gonna make any more sleeves?

Finally got the MAF installed and can do more than admire the craftsmanship. Thanks for a great product. I look forward to getting a DC drive shaft from you soon.

Thanks, Jared

I'm new to my 80 and came across this thread. An interesting mod with some history behind it.

At its current state of development, is this better suited for S/C engines or do the stock engines realize some benefits?

What about emissions? Do they improve, stay the same, or...

Out here in California we still have to pass the visual inpection and without an EO#, this might be a hassle. Have California owners had success sneaking this mod through state the smog inspection?

All engines will see a benefit from doing this mod. This mod basically replaces the stock MAF with a newer one from Toyota. The performance increase comes from less restrictive flow. Provided you have a good sensor there should be no difference in the emissions of the truck after installing it unless the original sensor had issues.

As for CA inspectors, I don't think anyone has had any problems with it installed. The housing bolts in place of the original sensor and is black in color. So unless they are keenly aware of a few small visual differences they won't pick up on it.

Thanks for the response.

Worst case, one would have to swap in the old one back in to pass the ever tightening smog test. Is this easy to do or is the installation of the new housing not reversible? Cut wires and dangling hoses are usually red flags for the smog guys.

Also is the new Toyota MAF sensor specified from a different application or is it the original one for the specific year 80?

The install requires you to re-arrange the wires in the plug for the sensor, that's it. You can easily put them back in the stock order and swap in the original MAF for emissions if need be.

The new sensor is an OEM Toyota sensor used on a multitude of newer vehicles from Toyota. The part number is 22204-21010.

I've gone through two CA smog inspections with the new MAF. I didn't pass visual inspection on the first one, but not because of the MAF itself, but rather the missing vacuum hose to the FPR. With the gen II MAF this hose stays in place and so is a non-issue. And since the sensor is a genuine Toyota part, I really don't think you will have a problem.

Wow! It showed up two days after I ordered it. Thank you.

Now to find a sensor.
