Landcruiser Fuel Tank Recall Replacement

Mine goes in later this week for the replacement tank. Does anyone know if they replace the fuel filter as part of the recall? If not, I'll have them do it.

get a quote before hand... I asked for my filler neck (one tube) to be done at the same time and they wanted 250 bucks for parts only, no labor though. I declined and they installed anyway at no charge.

So I just called my local dealer and they said that my VIN is invalid. The guy in the parts department said that if they came from Japan then they usually don't have them on file? Anyone else have an issue like this? Also tried to look it up online with no luck.. It's an 83 FJ60 do they have any recall issues?

This is BS unless you have a JDM rig.

My fuel tank was replaced yesterday by Toyota of Dallas. It was a good experience. The tank, a few fuel lines, and some gaskets were replaced under the recall. I also had them replace the fuel filter - only paid the $40 part, no labor. And told them to destroy the old fuel.

I noticed the parts invoice for the recall - wow, it was expensive - about $1600 if I read it correctly.

Hello guys! this is my first post, I have been looking and wrenching for about 2 months though.

Noticed this thread. Checked my VIN on the toyota website also and it says " please enter a valid toyota vin" Have yet to call my local dealer.

It won't take the VIN's for either my '86 FJ60 or my '80 FJ40. :frown:
The 40 I can sort of see, because it doesn't have a modern 17-digit VIN, but the 60 does.

Just to let everyone know who's vin # is not going through. I called Toyota directly and some vin #'s come up invalid because some records are not well updated online that are older than 15 years. I found out that my truck had both recalls done in '98. The # is 1-800-331-4331 after going through the list of newer recalls you're prompted to press 6 I think for other toyota recalls.

For anyone who was having the same problem I was with the dealer not cooperating. Here are the Toyota recall #'s

Fuel Tank- SSCM01

Rear Belts- SSCK04

Thanks guys, those are both helpful.

I checked the site and it says my VIN# is not a recognized Toyota VIN#. I verified it 3 times and entered it again, same response. HMMM, I checked my windshield plate, firewall plate, and title... all the same. So, I'll check with my local dealer on Monday after the holidays..

Merry Christmas to all and Happy Cruising :steer:

Just to weigh in here, albeit a little late on this thread.

I had my fj62 gas tank replaced a few years ago under the recall. My original tank actually did fail. IIRC, there is an issue with the spot welds at the baffles in the tank (??) popping apart. Mine leaked bad.

I also had them do the fuel pump and pre-filter (new OEM) while they were there.....it's a bitch to replace on a 62. Now I still have a spare fuel pump that will probably run for another million miles.

Went to the dealership today and asked about the recalls on my 62. The service guy was a little shocked with my questions as well as see that there is a recall. The gas tank had already been replaced but they are going to fix the seat belts. He was making sure that I really wanted to get it fixed and that I was going to come back if he ordered the parts because he said he would never be able to get rid of the parts. I told him when he got the parts in that i would be there. We'll see what happens.

I got my tank replaced under the recall about 3 months ago... The only problems i had was getting everyone away from my 60... It only took 4 days to get the parts in and my 60 was in the shop 3 days later...

just FYI... if you are getting your tank replaced i think you need to warn the mechanic that the vent and feed line that go into the tank may be very brittle from rust... I know this from experience... The feed line on my tank was so rusted it developed a leak right after the work was done... This is a part that is not covered under the recall parts list... The lines are still available from Toyota and it was around $50... Just sucked having to drop the tank down a week after it was put replaced...
