62 birfs are same a minitruck i have one sitting here new if needed. probably have spares as well. i'll look at steering stuff later today. waiting till 9am to mow for neighbors sake. it would save shipping if you want mine what happened to the old one? bell or cage?

The price dropped to $75 from the 3fe contact. Looks like these are only $60 bucks at the store, but need a core.

Erik- not to challenge your knowledge, but I thought that the 60/62 were longer than the minitruck?

Overhanger here, the guy from 3FE with the birf. Where did you find the price of $60? I looked at the CV Unlimited website and didn't see prices and couldn't find any online shops that carried them. If they go for $60 new, plus core, I will sell the one I have for $60 - no core needed. Wish I was headed back to KC this weekend to deliver it in person!

First I want to thank Kelly For helping me out with the knuckle centering tool . and Thank you Erik for providing the tool. It was fun to learn how to use this tool and we did it in an air conditioned garage ! I see Iron Pig has the 27spline 4340 chromoly birf for 69.00 and I need to order the marlin seals so I thought I would go that way. I know the birfs are Trail Gear product is that bad? . And Overhanger I'll PM you if I decide to buy yours. Erik I never had a second birf. Kirk

Kelly, 76-78 birfs are longer and use a different lockout as well. I am not aware of any changes till the 80 series birf but I might need to study up. It's good to question as I have forgotten quite a bit and most the the knowledge was gleamed prior to the interweb resources we have now.
Not sure why you would need a "core" that's just dumb.. most of the time they are destroyed. but I think that's a normal "parts store" birf with a warranty.

Trail gear.. WHile I'm not a fan of their business practices or ethics I would see no problem with their products. I would prefer you buy from Marlin or someone that has higher standards but alas it is $ and times are tough.

Honestly I picked up a bunch of the CV unlimited ones years ago. they're fine unless your doing stupid stuff then go with the cromo ones. If you go double locked and are popping birfs on a regular basis you need to upgrade to longs..

I'll try to review the steering stuff later as well. I did work some on my FJ62 yesterday, 3 35"s mounted and started getting the front bumper mounted as well. 4th tire and wheel sitting on floor need to mate the 2 before I can put them on the truck.

"62 tie rod, and the 40 drag link, is this the adapter he needs.. part 094-23H-SPR. This is also what I need to use the mini truck arms and my 40 stuff"

the 60 series tie rod is the same as a minitruck in regards to larger taper etc. you will need to cut down the tie rod width. I ? Think there might be enough threads but not positive.

NOW.. Relay rod.. I'll be honest I've never tried to use a 40 relay rod with a 60 tie rod but in theory it should work. Same taper and same issue but your putting a sleeve into a tie rod instead of a knuckle arm. I dunno. I would see if you can mate the 60 tie rod first. If you can't why not just "sleeve" the Fj40 tie rod with the 60 tie rod?

What type of steering box is on the truck? Stock steering? Saginaw? FJ60? Scout? 60 series have a pitman arm that eliminates the junction box under the front bumper.

If you can safely shorten the 60 tie rod that would be your starting point. Either way your going to need at least one of those bushings to do what your asking. And you'll need 2 if you use the 40 tie rod and relay rod. so I would go ahead and order 2, then determine if the 60 tie rod can be cut down, if it can't then you have the parts to finish the swap and get back on the road with minimal down time.

where did you all get your backing plate eliminators from? I picked up some from marlin and they seem to have a different bolt pattern than the knuckles i have.

backing plates..
Rotate them. I believe the two closest holes go towards the top. I picked my last set up from Mark Algazy at mark's off road but they all should be very similar.

I have a set from marlin, but did not install, so I don't know if they actually line up.

I believe Kirk got his set from Marlin too.

Kirk, I need to apologize. We could of put your knuckles on at my house this last weekend and the felt/rubbers. For some reason, my brain said without the birfs, the final nuts and washers, we should stop where we did. Anyway, oops. Brain freeze. It really helps having three hands when you put those wipers on, so my bad.

Thanks for the plug Erik.;) Both Marlin and SOR buy them from me.

I will spin them around again tomorrow night when i get back home.

well i didn't see the notch in the top so mine are good.

Toyota has your parts in, I paid and Erik is going to pick them up (just because it is easier to get more people involved)

Anyway, I should have the parts in hand this weekend, and I can likely ship them to you for almost nothing, unless you are going to be coming to KC anytime soon.

If you want to mail them, Email me your mailing address, so I can give them to the USPS folks.

I have a meter at the house as well.. so if you just wanna cut out the middle man iffin i can't hook up with kelly this weekend.

Note: some of the order from Toyota is for me. :grinpimp::grinpimp:

I figured I would add to the thread. I ended up buying a stud kit from trail gear and its a lot easier than the bolts.
