I have my key code off the PS door lock barrel. Are the codes 4 numbers long? Ie., 2234? Not longer and no letters?

I cleaned up the barrel, but all I saw was just four numbers..

Can someone post an example of a made up code combination?

Thanks

Doug

4 is it

heck there are only few dozen key codes for any 1980's toyota........they could have just used 2 digits ;)

I thought it was four numbers, but I found a post that mentioned a letter also?

Thanks

you may be right, I know the 77 fj40 I got last year had a K in the code

I looked again at the passenger side key barrel key code area with a magnifying glass. There could be a very faint "K", but I can't tell if it's just a scratch. There are 4 numbers, ie., 1234 clear and sharp.

Can anyone confirm a USA FJ60 1985 +/- key code?

Does it start with a letter? Which one?

I'm preparing to seal my door panel with a self stick liner after installing sound deadener. I'm using a thin sound sheet under the interior door card, so I don't want to go back in anytime soon.

Thanks

I found some info on what the key code for 1985 USA FJ60 should be.

It should have a "K" then 4 numbers - Example - K1234

I can't find the K on mine, but I will assume it should have been there.

Should have the "K" + 4 if it's a stock lock.

FWIW, I had a hell of a time getting a key cut at the dealer. I gave up after 3 tries. I even took them the old-style all metal Toyota blank (TR33) cuz they didn't have one (at two dealers in SFV).

I had much MUCH better luck finding an old skool lock an key guy to recode a new lock cylinder and door set. These old non-theft tumbers are apparently really simple, if you know what you're doing.

I don't need new keys, and our 60 still has the stock locks which all work. I wanted the info for/if needed in the future.

I have used a local lock smith for years and all the keys they have cut work fine. I give the locks a shot of graphite every couple of years and knock on wood, they keep working.

Yeah, my 60 has the original Ignition and door locks and keys. I give 'em a spritz every now and then, too.

The lock work I had done was for a 60 that had missing keys when I bought it and I had to remove the tumbler assy to get it home.
