I wonder if this would fit if you have the ARB drawers with the ARB cargo barrier thing.
Can’t speak to the cargo barrier, but visibility with the kaon is near perfect. Once you get used to it you don’t even realize it’s there. Also, if you have ARB drawers and a lower height fridge it keeps good visibility as well. I agree using an exped on top of ARB drawers with the rack is no issue as long as you keep your feet to the tailgate. I use BROG cargo pouches and keep blankets coats hats and gloves full time in the kaon rack in winter. The cargo pouches compress the soft items just enough to create more space and also keeps it organized. Any luggage type stuff pouches works just needs to be reasonably thin. Looking forward to seeing anyone who adds the fist clamps to the underside Molle. I was thinking folded fishing rods might fit well with the proper clamp system. Nothing worse than not having a good secure spot for a couple rods when camping.

My shelf arrived Friday and I'm planning on installing it tomorrow - looks like a nice piece of kit.

I know it a  install, but I have a question about the statement at the bottom of the Fitting Instructions sheet:

"We recommend applying anti-sieze compound or grease to all bolted connections"

My inclination would be to apply a medium grade thread sealer like Loctite Blue to make sure the bolts don't vibrate loose - it would never occur to me to use anti-seize on them.

Can anyone confirm that they did indeed use anti-seize, and if so, why? Or if not, why not?

Inquiring minds need to know.

TIA
I used blue anti seize on mine and worked great. I haven’t heard a single squeak in 3 months. Tighten well just don’t go real hard on on the nets and bolts.

Hi all, I'm thinking about picking one of these up (shelf but with a pet barrier). Would anybody be willing to measure the height from the floor to the bottom of the shelf? I want to make sure my dogs will have room between the cargo boxes and the shelf.
Search 200 series kaon rack on you tube and the good blokes at kaon already did this. Just need to convert from metric to get your bearings.

Thanks for this picture. Based on this I should have enough room for the items I need on top of the drawer and still have room for the shelf. I’m going to be carrying a small generator and a wrappon toilet back there and stacking stuff on top of items I need to get in and out frequently is such a pain.

No probs. I plan to post another picture and some dimensions but not this weekend. Too damn cold in Denver. I just got an ARB classic 2 63qt fridge that is about 17 inches high. It keeps good visibility with both the fridge and kaon installed out the back. Eventually will post pic of arb drawers, kaon, ARB fridge and exped single mat on passenger side. That will be my solo camp set up when I don’t have the family with and am not hauling my turtleback. Just need to get some visors for the windows to help with condensation while sleeping in the rig.

Good to know, looking forward to those pics whenever you post them. My generator is only 1.5 inches taller so it sounds like it will be a good fit and plenty of room.

FYI their pet barrier is on point. But...it utilizes a different shelf, should you choose to run both. So I have an extra stand alone shelf, NIB that I'll be selling. Edit: sold

Mind a bit of clarification? Looking at the pet barrier and wondering if you meant it’s different than the shelf or you hit another snag modifying.

I believe the shelf that comes with the pet/light cargo barrier (they offer it as a set) is different than the standalone shelf that is sold by Kaon.

Per barrier is a different shelf.

Love my Kaon roof shelf. Shipping from AU was crazy fast.

Good video on how to install but it was a PITA for me. I'm on the larger side and hunched back there on top of drawers trying to get those nuts threaded in takes some patience and body contortions. I didn't quite get the black holder all the way on for 2 of those special nuts and lost in the sheet metal. Was able to retrieve but added more time to my install.

Looking forward to using that extra storage space on next trip.

This. You do not remove 3rd row handles. Instead, it has "clamps" that use the handles themselves while also utilizing the barrier attachments.

I didn't read the fine print and ordered the standard shelf and barrier...had to sell the standarf shelf to another mudder and got karate throat chopped via shipping ordering the replacement barrier-specific shelf.

You can however use the grab handle replacement bracket to mount the barrier/shelf combo.

What’s the pet barrier like, how would it compare to a cargo barrier? I like the shelf but will have a cargo barrier so I’m not sure how it will fit but I’m also not sure the pet barrier will serve the same role as a cargo barrier.

Same thing. Kaon calls it a light cargo barrier. One prevents pets from leaving the cargo area, one prevents cargo from launching out of the cargo area. Potato/potatoe.

Installed mine last week, literally minutes before leaving on a multi day trip. It arrived just a few days after ordering. Everything arrived In great shape. Installation was a breeze. The hardest part was getting the plastic covers off the OEM handles. I was able to store 2 sleeping bags, 4 helinox chairs, a folding potty seat and a privacy tent. It is a great price of kit. Well worth the price.

How can we get a group buy going on this thing?
Shipping is the big killer on this. Not sure how much a group buy will help with the shipping. I love mine and felt the total price was worth it.

Just ordered 2!
Are you going to put one over the second row? If so, I'm eager to see photos.

I plan to eventually remove my second row seats, and mount my fridge behind the fronts, in order to leave the rear storage with more packing options. Right now, I have my left over Raingler 4Runner full-length net that I plan to see if I can use (once it warms up.) If not, a couple Kaon shelves might be a better option than a new Raingler net.

That wasn't the plan actually (have 2 trucks to put them in), but it would be interesting to see if it would work over the second row.
