I got the 3/8" plywood sheet cut to size. Fits fine, but not stiff enough. Requires reinforcement. I expect I'll use 3/8" AL channel around the perimeter, and maybe a middle bar or cross. I'll also have to remove the L brackets and bend them a bit more, maybe 5 more degrees.

If it bust through 3 zip ties and enters my cranium so be it.

Hopefully your passengers feel as you do...

As for me...I IImaginea collision while holding a coffee thermos up to my face and having my airbag shove it though my head llike a baseball bat.

Yep - I'm tall and like to sit in the boot to change after a surf or boot up in winter... Somehow, it doesnt mess with my view out the back or ability to sit anywhere in the truck. Initially I forward mounted it but pulled it back to the center mount as that felt better.

The front panel afforded a great spot to store a light and the handle alcove holds a medkit perfectly. Super stoked on it... though solo install was touch and go for a few second when I almost dropped it on my face.
Do you have a third row? I wonder if a medium sized adult can fit comfortably in the third row with the shelf installed.

A medium sized adult can’t sit comfortably in the third row even WITHOUT a Kaon. :)

But seriously, I do not think it would be wise to put a metal bar in front of heads sitting in the third row. If you use your third row, I’d skip the Kaon...and I suspect even Kaon would not recommend it.

My third row is tucked away in the basement... BUT, without the third row / w/ the Kaon I can still boot up or sip a beverage with a friend in comfort

Fair request and it t'was a long day yesterday. Let me try again:

1. I have a third row, but I wont be dragging it out of my basement to reinstall it to check fitment. Dont be offended, wouldnt do it for my wife or dogs either :)

2. A large, 6'3'' sized human CAN comfortably fit in the cargo area under the following conditions:

+ 1 Kaon Roof Shelf
- third row Seat

@timjax - Looks like you'll be losing 6.5' of vertical space, as measured from the middle of the headliner, to the middle-rear of the rack.... so, if you're medium sized human has 7 inches of space above their head, you should be golden-ish

Aluminum channel was as much as buying a wire grid. This 3x3“ 2 ft by 4ft grid in chrome was $37. For now attached with metal zip ties. Had to cut out a few sections to match wall geometry. About 10 min with hacksaw. Last step will be putting a couple L brackets on the front with some AL rods to create a forward stop.
In about $80 so far.
Edit: without the front stop nearly invisible in rear view mirror.

Looks great, nice work. I modified mine with hinges so the forward stop can fold forward, makes it super convienent for second row access. Highly recommended.

Can you post details on your hinge mod? Curious.

Post 45 has some details and images showing what I did. Let me know if you would like any more info. So far it’s holding up well. Went to Ace hardware and got some cabinet hinges that lock closed and bolted them between the rack and forward stop. Added weather stripping Between them to eliminate any rattles. Then added a Velcro strap to really secure it In place . didn’t want any chance of it opening forward on someone’s head. Possibly finding a better hinge could eliminate the need for this strap.

You had @Markuson at "Velcro" 🤪

Would any of you with the roof nest installed be willing to take a quick measurement from the floor to the bottom of the rack?

I'm considering one, but need to make sure the dogs have enough head room between the top of my cargo boxes and the bottom of the rack.

I’m going to need to stiffen the shelf on the narrow dimension. The roof connections are too close together toward the front. Getting some vibration. Just need a third attachment more toward the back. I’ve got some AL flat bar in the misc bin, will try that, bridging the roof brackets and extending back another 8 in or so.

Hi all, I'm thinking about picking one of these up (shelf but with a pet barrier). Would anybody be willing to measure the height from the floor to the bottom of the shelf? I want to make sure my dogs will have room between the cargo boxes and the shelf.

I have a Trekboxx in mine so I can't help there, but their web site has that number listed as 87cm or 34.25in.
