Sorry off topic...

Decided to poke around the Wayne 70 pump today. It still has all the guts which I love (except the bad fuel smell). Most are all stripped out. I put a small camera into the conduit leading to the lights and found that the wire was right near the end where it was cut. Took off a few inches and exposed the original wires. Definitely a little dicey...

Next I cut the female end off an extension cord and temporarily wired it up to see if the pump wiring was intact.

Plugged in and....

Boom! The two old bulbs still worked. The 3 other empty sockets got new bulbs and they lit up no problem.

I’m hoping it’s not going to be a pile of melted metal in the morning after burning to the ground.

Next step is a more permanent wiring solution with proper wires, switch and cord. In the meantime I’m celebrating with a beer.

So nice, I need to get myself one of those. Dom, here are a few photos gleaned from somewhere. Not sure if these really were a thing but cool non the less.

When you can’t get a rounded off diff drain plug to cut loose you’ll try anything. When you don’t expect the next size up socket and impact gun to work....

Best to be ready just in case.

I was not.

Well it must’ve been when I did the disc brakes?! Maybe not! But I would say despite the look of the gear oil the gears look great and it supports the 66k original miles on the truck.

First time ever I’ve pulled a cover and didn’t have to spend tons of time trying to pry off old dried up cork gasket material...

Just sayin Brian.... you probably shouldn’t have passed on this truck!

I used mostly 8mm length sleeves with 2 12mm length sleeves.

Back on with longer studs...

Are these that hard to find?! Was missing these and the spider gears from one of the pumpkins I got but have spare parts on the shelf. But not these? I had to use the original I removed.

Getting closer.

Should I reuse the Guinness gear oil?!

Figured I’d swap the flanges and be done. Who knew there were course spline and fine spline. Ha ha.

Turns out the 3.70’s may be late FJ60 variety so my pinion fine spline flange pattern didn’t match.

A quick trip to the drill press...

This should give you an idea about whether I’ve tackled the front yet...

Went for a quick test drive. Really liking the change. Can go a bit further in 1st. Spacing feels better. Maybe It’s psychosomatic?!

Who knows...

Front driveshaft comes off tomorrow just to be safe.

Reminds me when I was 17 with my first 4x4, a 1980 Toyota pickup. I jumped it at hollister and bent the front axle housing! I found a new one in a junk yard and swapped it in. What I didn’t know was the 80 gear ratio was 4.37. I installed 4.10’s from an 85. Well let’s just say I tested the strength of a transfercase!!! Very odd feeling of driving a few feet and everything binding!

On my way over to see the worlds nastiest pig that @landcruisnman is building the 45 started running rough up a hill. A quick glance at the fuel gauge showed almost on E. So I coasted down to the gas station to fill her up. Only to find I didn’t bring my wallet. Backup $20 in the ashtray was my saving grace.

Unfortunately after fueling up there was no change. Hmmmmm

The good news was I got to see Pats pig for the first time in a few months. Fresh paint…

So after consulting @cruiserbrett I’m leaning towards TPS. Followed the FSM on TPS test but got different readings the 2 times I tested it. So I need to spend some more time confirming the problem when I’m not rushed.

Found the original we pulled during the build in a box.

I ordered a new one from Toyota but I might throw this one on to see if it works. Never hurts to have a new one on the shelf.

Also going to dig out a spare AFM and swap that just to be sure.
