For those who don't make the Casner trail list, I'd be happy to lead a group up Schnebly Hill Road that day. It has become increasingly technical, the views are spectacular, and we could even do a quick hike / lunch break halfway up. Let me know who's interested.

@Clunky is there a way into the camping area at the top of Schnebly without having to get ou t to 17. Then up to Exit 337 to the Airport?

Checked out the campsite with the family today. Looking good. There's one guy camping up here and said he was surprised to see anyone else here. He's been coming up for 15 years and nobody ever bothers him...until now...muwahhahahaha!

You have to go out to 17, however it looks like it might be possible to take 237 just south of Kachina Village to cut over to 89A just north of 535 (which leads to the campsite). I've never done it, but will try to test it out before the weekend of the run.

Even if that works, I'm sure it will be slower than just heading up to the airport exit, then heading south on 89A. It might be a more interesting and fun though.

For those thinking about Schnebly, it's an amazing view (see pics). We did a family weekend a couple of years ago. You can get to 535 going north on 89A. It's

slow, but scenic through the canyon.

@Dissent yes I met the same guy on Sunday morning. Very little traffic back there which was nice

That FR231 detour is still very much there. Brice's directions are spot on. I came in from Flagstaff (Route 66) yesterday down FR231 (Woody Mountain Road) and followed his directions quite easily. FYI - From Route 66 to the camp site was 1 hour of driving. Plan accordingly.

There's a fire restriction going in place tomorrow effective until late August. Going to need some Propane Fire Rings.

Two years ago some people showed up Saturday evening planning to camp there. Next morning they showed up to see the sunrise. Hopefully don't find someone camping there.

In the past I tried every trail heading west off Schnebly Hill road from the top of rim to I-17. No luck couldn't find a way to 89A. Years ago fall turkey was across the counter tag and hunted both sides of I-17 south of Minds park. Found a number roads heading east over to FH3 (Mormon Lake/Lakeary road) but nothing going west.

The guy @tls3601 and I ran into said he was expecting some out of town folks for the weekend. He said he discovered the area 15 years ago elk hunting and rarely sees anyone up there. He was surprised to see us. :P

Well, we are covered there. It has been so dry I wouldn't risk a wood fire even if there wasn't a fire ban.

@Dimples yes they pull that every year just before Memorial Day up here. Probably wont slow down the controlled burns though...........agenda.

Guy we met was Gary from Windslow....................nice guy. Would have liked to hike along that rim and checkout the fire tower further down the road but didnt want to impose on the mans site.

Okay now it is definitely time to talk food. Who is in for pot luck and who is Dutch treating? I as always am in for potluck.

What's the theme for pot luck? Will you still have the grill

Is there a group that is just camping that is going up on Friday?
