Put a wire wheel on a 4.5" angle grinder. Put on some thick clothes, eye, face, and hand protection, and a dust mask. Go for it.

Love that old school ConFerr console.

good to know on clothing...old hazmat suit should work well:D minus charcoal liner of course....the ConFerr is cavernous I love it...but still have the  bag of stuff behind the passenger seat.

Yeah, those wires will make you bleed.

As for the frame, it just depends on what you are planning. Remember, it took 25 years to get where it is. Not likely to accelerate too much in a short time.

If you plan on morphing this thing into a rock crawler, save your energy. I did all this frame prep and POR 15 just to take a sawzall to it 2 years later.

yeah been talking to Jrob...got great advice...I read to much on threads from guys up north dealing with serious salt....probably wire wheel frame and body I can get to and just put rustoleum shiny black on it...rubberized stuff on wheel wells.

Don't use a grinder wheel on it. Like Lash said put a wire wheel on the grinder. I am getting ready to do mine as well. What are you going to put on top of the RB? Look into Durabak Company; Truck Bed, Marine, Boat Ship Industrial & Workplace Non-Skid Coatings.

will check that out Jeff....haven't really decided on what to top coat with....I have a few cans of rubberized bed liner stuff, but not sure how that will work. Let me know when you are planning to do yours...I want to see how you do it....you see how mine looks!!

Herculiner worked pretty good and it's tough!

Comes with roller. You can brush it.

Herculiner sux in my opinion. If I was going to coat it with something that was going to be permanent it would be the Durabak. Nobody has taken my advice on the Durabak but it's a tough product. Prep is key. I'm looking at just doing my floor area. Rolling mine.

Chugging and hesitation??

Fellas....I went for a drive after dinner and am having fuel delivery issues? I have searched inconclusively on the forums for an answer. I have seen lots of similar issues, but not this.

when just keeping steady on the skinny pedal I feel a surge or lag almost like the brake is being applied ever so slightly. I don't hear anything except the normal winding down/winding back up..almost like she is gulping for gas?

Rob and I had planned to install a new mech pump last night, but he had to work all day. Is this indicative of a bad electric pump or could this be one of the following I have seen others have issues with: fuel pressure regulator, clogged fuel filter, throttle position sensor, fuel sock in tank?

truck had a new tank in the last 2 years, in 2006 it had the carb removed and plate tightened, new fuel line and filter.

Should I try fuel injector cleaner? or wait and see if the new mech pump solves it.....thoughts.....ideas? thanks:bang:

I'm working the next 2 days but am free Sunday after church. I give you a call. I'll be glad to give you a hand. If you get board tomorrow I'll be up at the shop working on jacks 40. Your welcome to stop by. I feel bad that it has taken so long for me to free up time for a fellow cottonlander but with a two man shop and roughly 15 new units from Texas and Florida my time has been stretched thin.

What problem was the electric pump previously having that caused you to switch back to a mechanical? Are the new issues related?

Start with the basics:
Be sure there are no kinks/cracks/leaks in the fuel lines.
Change the fuel filter.
Well, I've never had to go past that point on my own...??

When Myron rebuilt my carb, he put a second small clear fuel filter just before the carb. Its great to see if the fuel is flowing in smoothly or not.

Rob...no worries...customers and food on the table have to come first!!! it's not a DD so we will get to it when we get to it....ill come by tomorrow bn errands and the whole christmas tree set up thing to look over the lines and maybe I can do some work before we get to it. DONT feel bad, I know you are swamped....no worries:D

Well it currently has an electric pump, new lines, and a new tank...PO did all that, PO before him put a weber on after having issues...carb is now solid, but the most recent PO, as well as my one experience, had the truck act funny twice:
riding along fine, it sputtered, acted starved for gas, then died...wouldnt turn over for 15 minutes on side of the road, then cranked and ran FINE.
I wonder if a line is clogged, or upon getting hot is being blocked?

Rob and I can check all the lines during the rerouting back to the new mech pump I have.
Fuel filter was changed last year.

My head hurts and they aren't picking up garbage till Monday.:frown:

Dude you start more threads than Jes has ended. ;)

I'm not your tech guy but it sounds like carb issues and Myron Watson on Hwy 25 is your guy. Murrah and him go way back, get his digits from him.

My head hurts and they aren't picking up garbage till Monday.:frown: stop drinking and go ahead and put the garbage on the street....I just did both:p

Dude you start more threads than Jes has ended. ;) I am a journalism major and find the more noise I make the harder it is to be ignored:D

Murrah and him go way back, get his digits from him I did get pointed in Myron's direction, but she cranks right up and the issue seems to be getting fuel TO the carb...but if we rule out all fuel line, pump issues I have a rebuilt fact. carb ready to jump in and save the day!

Changing the filter is a 10 minute $6 job that will, if nothing else, rule that out. Well worth it.

DON'T TEMPT ME!!!!:D

I'll start posting a "daily thought" and comment on my on thought....then I can ask questions and answer them with 15 links to my own answers and random pages from within and outside Mud.:grinpimp:

All of John's threads combined into one! Brilliant, it will beat out the Chat thread in no time.

Feeling the love :D
