DNP? well I am bringing my buddy that just bought his AND another buddy to lenny's to finally meet CLC....maybe we can convicne Eric to buy one also.......;)

DNP is a fellow cottonlander.....he is trying to corner the market on 80's

I just sent that Craigslist link to a friend of mine that was hunting for a 40. Oh well at least it went to a soon to be cottonlander.

I think it's the one I used to see at Myrons shop. This particular model has the optional 4x4 chock with the screen door handle. You park and jump out quick with the chock for the tires! Great truck with a lot of potential.

yup you guys got it right.....optional "E break = block o wood" My buddy is really fired up. It's in decent shape, the frame is good...it's got random spots of a different color khaki, to cover rust, but I think Andy and I will repaint it anyway....it's a great first truck for him and I told him it was, I thought, a good deal...yall can give him more than .02 cents Saturday after while wrenching.

you may get a chance to work on this one if Andy and I have issues. I all ready told him where you work and I still need to come by with my cruiser.

Welcome! That is awesome to have another 40....maybe the balance of power will shift back to those little booggers...

You already add my 40 and 55 to the count? :D

Glad to have another member (or, at least potential member!) I love the wooden parking brake, what character!:wrench:

Rust Bullet...STOP the Cancer!!....It's HUNGRY

So I have looked at Rust bullet verse all the other options and decided that rust bullet is the best option for my cancer. I have read their entire website and also all postings I could find on here about it.I am going to treat the spots on both sides under my doors and also coat the entire bed. If that goes well I may attempt the frame.

Has anybody used rust bullet and what are your opinions on standard verse automotive? My application areas are small enough I want to use a brush so the thinner automotive type is not as attractive except for the fact it will have a slightly better finish to it. Having said that I am just going to rustoleum rattle can over it with some, hopefully matching green, for a temporary fix.

Is there anywhere to get it local or should I order red direct from them?

I loved it. Think I have a half gallon left over if you want to try it before u buy any.

They support the SCC every year so thank them for that when you buy. Good product!

JRob...ill try to prep a small area before next Saturday's wrenching session. Bring what you have left if you can. I would love to test it out before buying a gallon.....I need that much for both sides, inside tub and frame.

thanks for the offer.....did you spray or brush it and how much were you covering?

No not aware of a local place to buy.

JRob..and others.....did you do your frame? I have read just about every thread out there on Rust bullet and 90% of the guys are discussing frame off stuff and are SERIOUS about rust as they are in the North.

I am planning to do mine on the frame and am planning on this:
1. pressure wash
2. Fan dry for a couple of days
3. wire brush, angle grind all flaking rust/mud/gunk
4. pressure wash
5. Fan dry for a couple of days
6. roll on rust bullet automotive, 2 coats (entire frame and as much of the underside of the tub and chasis as I can get to....should I do springs?)
7. top coat with RB top coat for that new sleak black look

doing a frame on, with no gun....I think a roller (brush for small areas) is the best I can do. I am not really concerned with the inside of the frame as it appears to be in pretty good shape.

Thoughts...suggestions......experience from anyone on this?

I have a few pints of RB automotive on the way to test on the inside of the tub....planning to remove seats and cover entire inside in RB automotive and then either rustoleum green or top coat in RB shell.

Thanks guys!

John

So here are some before shots of the inside of the tub...pretty nasty when I pulled the rubber mat up. The :princess: is getting me an Angle grinder for Christmas and RB is in the mail.

Once that is done I will move to the frame.:bang:

Most of you guys with 80s probably haven't had to deal with rust on this level, but JRob has given me some good advice on how he did his tub and frame and I am following suit.

None of it is rusted through accept under the drivers side....that will probably have to be cut out and replaced. :bang: I used a belt sander, but it didn't get very far, the wire brush actually did pretty good.....the angle grinder will get it out for sure.

more to follow.

Put a wire wheel on a 4.5" angle grinder. Put on some thick clothes, eye, face, and hand protection, and a dust mask. Go for it.

Love that old school ConFerr console.

Yeah, those wires will make you bleed.

As for the frame, it just depends on what you are planning. Remember, it took 25 years to get where it is. Not likely to accelerate too much in a short time.

If you plan on morphing this thing into a rock crawler, save your energy. I did all this frame prep and POR 15 just to take a sawzall to it 2 years later.
