Hi all,

I've recently put a deposit on a 1988 BJ74 LX. It's currently in a container on it's way to Richmond, BC. After that, I'll take a train ride from my home in Seattle, give it a good inspection, and more than likely take it home. It's got 49,000 original miles.

I copied all of the pics from the site before they took the ad down. Sorry for the advertisement text on the first image.

I keep doing google image searches, but can't seem to find another BJ74 with the black only room. Only the fiberglass or white roof.

*black only roof, not "room" as I said in the post.

I submitted too soon, unfortunately. Anyway, I'm very excited. Any of you cats who live in this neck of the woods and go to Stevens Pass, Mt. Baker, or Crystal will see it on the mountain this winter, provided El Niño deems us worthy to get any snow at all.

Mine is similar but with the plastic roof.
Your engine bay looks a lot nicer!

congratulations with the new cruiser mate it looks real tidy, bj74 is a MWB with a removable fibreglass roof bj70 is a SWB with a non removable steel roof like this one

Thanks for the info. I thought the BJ73 was the removable top version. You know the internet and how all that goes...

I guess I'll be the guy to say it... I don't know what you bought, but if it's the truck in the pictures, it's not a BJ74... The truck in the pics is a BJ70.... No turbo... that's a 3B engine. Short wheel base. The reason the roof is black is because it's not a removable FRP top. No fold down windshield.
Still a great truck. I ran one up to 640,000 km on the Odo, but definately not a BJ74.

Thanks. I can still back out of this sale if I feel like it. I'm contacting the dealer right now. Does anyone have a BJ-74 engine photo handy? I'm going to send him side by sides.

Thanks so much for your help. This is exactly why I posted to the site. I'm still going to try and get it, but not for the price he's asking.

Yes, it's a non-turbo BJ70. Nice looking truck! It sold at auction in Japan about 3 weeks ago.

Here's a pic of a BJ74 13BT turbo engine:

yeah BJ73 is also MWB removable top version I'm not entirely sure what the difference between BJ73 and BJ74 is but I was always led to believe one was 3b engine and the other was 13bt but don't quote me on that it may be something else

I have a deposit of $4k USD on it, the whole car is $10k. It seems like that's still a good deal on a no-rust car with 49k miles. Thoughts?

Do you have a purchasing agreement / contract stating that your deposit is for a "BJ74"?

That was the first thing I looked for. The line item says, "1988 Toyota Land Cruiser with 49000 miles only."

I'm not terribly worried. I will simply back out on the deal if I feel like it's not a solid car or feel like I was lied to.

Steve, how do you have this info? Did you see what was being sold at that auction? Do you know the sale price?
