Called them and the park will be accessible as of lunchtime Friday. Looks like my guest and I will be rolling in late Friday night. Any place y'all like to camp or have decided on already that I need to look for? Never been there so I don't know the layout.

Dennis--What's the story? What time we meeting at Galleria? hehehehehe

I have not received any responses from the owner. The phone numbers on the website are not in service. The meeting time will be 9 a.m leave by 9:30 a.m.
I will not be on this trip. if anyone has a good number for the park let me know. I will keep trying to reach them by email.

So if y'all are leaving around 0930, is that about 2 hours for your arrival time? I think I'll already be there, but I want to know when to look for you.

And I never got a response to where to set camp. Anyone have a preferred place or area to point me towards?

Morris Mountain an hour and a half from Cobb Galleria.

There is primitive camping at the park . I camped there the only time I have been to Morris Mountain so I don't know of any other places to camp. What time do you think you will be there on Friday? I might meet you and camp for the night depending on the weather.

I knew it was only primitive, I just didn't know if there was a preferred area or site; like maybe close to the bathrooms (or far away if needs be). I'm sure I'm over-complicating it, but I just don't want y'all to show up and say "damn, I wish you'd set up over there".

Josh, I think my passenger and I will be leaving Memphis between 12 & 2 sometime. Its about 6-7 hours for us so, judging on the high side, that'd be around 9pm. However, there's a BBQ place just north of 20 that we want to have dinner at and there may be a set of tires being picked up on the way too. Since it's a relatively short drive for you, I could keep tabs with you that day and maybe you could meet us at the BBQ joint for dinner and we can convoy to the park from there.

you guys are killin' me dammit. what's the weather supposed to be like Fri night? no promises!!!

Dunno about the weather yet but with the front that's just rollin through, I'm optimistic that we'll be good.

Y'all are close enough, come on down Friday for a sweet campfire and then we'll have a nice FULL day of wheeling. I'm driving like 7 hours for this - I want to see as much as possible!

BTW - I think I've got another guest coming now. Elbert can't make it, but somebody else from the area can. I think he'll be a great addition.

If you need a Hotel, call America's Best Value Inn in Heflin and ask for Sam, tell him you would like the Morris Mtn rate. It's right off the interstate and 9 miles from MM, easy to get to... just straight down the road.
Sam wheels, and can often be seen in a white sammi with a fishing hat. He is one awesome guy.

I need to get in on this action next time you guys go. It's a lot closer than going all the way to Sparta. My pickup should be drivable pretty soon. Still a long way to go but I should be able to do some easy stuff. :steer:

so what's the MM rate? is it by the hour and does it include toothless women? Jay is asking...

Haven't been to either one of those. Only been to Sparta. I'm a noob!!! :o

Really tho, I'd like to do some short runs when I get the truck rollin. Like some day runs or 1 night stay. It's like 5 hours for me to get to sparta. Need to find something closer. :hillbilly:

there goes the neighborhood.
Damn, you ruined the surprise!

Jordan and I were going to do this until I talked to Kris at MM and he said the park would be open if we wanted to camp Friday. Rather save the hotel money AND be able to sit around a nice fire. But Sam is a cool guy; I picked up some parts from him for Jordan at the hotel once. His Sammi is similarly set up like Lenny's; looks REAL capable.

Eric, do you know about Marie's BBQ House just north of Sam's hotel? A cowoker that grew up in Heflin recommended it to me so I'm trying to get there for dinner Friday. Have any thoughts about it? Anyone else that might be coming down Friday want to meet me and Jordan there for a late dinner?

I think the MM rate is $45 for single bed, $50 for two beds; don't quote me on that though.

Isn't Lithonia relatively close? Be a good place to do a shakedown and for a noob to learn I think.

Never ate there. The Vallarta messycan joint close to the park is a new favorite though! Cheap too.

Is there a park in Lithonia? I used to work there near Stonecrest mall and I used to live over in the Conyers/Covington area.
Not a park, just a place. If you were at Stonecrest, you were right down the street from it. I won't mention the specifics on the open forum cause I bet it's still somewhat a hush-hush kinda place. I think it was closed for a while but is accessible again. Ted and Josh I think know the current scoop on it.

Word. Once I get the beast on the road in the next couple of weeks I'll get in touch with you guys privately and we can discuss it.
