The bushing holder sleeve became this, holds a rear bushing from a front '80 arm.

Rut-oh, a hole in the frame!

A second tube was added and a bridge between them, the bushing holder bolts to it. A FJ80 front arm is being used as a traction bar.

The axle end still needs to be cleaned up, notched over the axle, etc. Looks like it will work well?

Been somewhat sealing the motor up, had big leaks.

Got a pan gasket, wrong one. Did a bit of fruitless web searching, then called Lopers, thinking they would know the scoop. Needed a pan gasket for a target master crate motor, part#, honcho in mexico, provision for dipsticks on both sides, split rear main seal, etc. We cant help, takes a special gasket, you have to get from the dealer! So much for the "you put a cheby motor in because you can get the parts from circle K"!

Call the dealer, after much searching, came up with the part#. Only one in the state, at Courtesy, didn't want to drive there.

Called lots of "parts stores" (worthless bling shops) explained what we are looking for. Year, make and model of the rig,,, it's a GM crate motor,,, doesn't matter we need year, make, model,,, no problem, '76, Toyota, FJ40,,, that doesn't show a V8,,, no s***, really, it's a gm crate,,, screw it, click?

So finally found an intelligent life form at NAPA, no problem, got it. Turned out to be a "universal" gasket from Felpro, molded one piece silicone, nice piece. Likely largely my inexperience with chebys, but still frustrating.

Anyway the motor is very clean on the inside, likely has few miles on it.

Got the ballast back aboard, looking better? Some of the weight from the front is being stored in the rear, (fenders, bib, battery, etc), the top is coming off, so this will bring the rear up.

The flat pitman arm came, so got the steering box and shock towers mocked up. Making them work is the next project.

Big thanks to jjgarci1 for the help on Sat!

nice work! If I may divert the thread, where did the bumper on the front of root beer come from?

I think it is a 4Plus.

Did a bunch of stuff, but didn't take many pix.

Got the front (was the rear) diff freshened. As expected, had more wear than the other one. Took more shim change to get acceptable preload, etc, but the bearings, gears look plenty good, especially for a front.

A bit of brinelling on those races?

More stuff cut off, most of that went back on after the cut and turn.

Have welded up the rings around the drain plugs way too many times. Made it a bit stronger with some 1/2" plate!:hillbilly:
